McJeff215 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 In May a boy my daughter goes to school with died of brain cancer. Both he and his little brother were into hockey quite a bit. My daughter came home today with a voucher for two free tickets to an upcoming game. They were given away to every kid at the elementary school from what I understand. That's pretty awesome.

That's first class for sure. A nice move by the organization. Imagine old sugar packets forking the tickets out ala Regis style. Although I did see the other night tickets were $10 for upper deck. Edit: nevermind it was Tampa tickets. ATL has all you can eat tickets for $35. Side note: Kovalchuk broke a bone in his foot. I'd expect the Thrash to cool off.

Very nice gesture by the Thrashers FO.
Knightrider Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 There's a guy I work with that is a big Thrashers fan. He played hockey growing up in Atlanta. It's weird hearing someone with a thick southern accent talk hockey. I'm used to either the Ontario accent, or the Bahstin accent... Anyway, I hope for his sake Atlanta has success. Sounds like the FO knows what it's doing.

They have done a good job getting involved at schools and whatnot. Local ice rinks (there are like 5 or 6 sheets total I think) all have Thrashers affiliations & sponsored cross-ice programs. It's a fairly decent run organization. If they'd just stop beating the Sabres, I might be able to put them on the fan list as "#2."

What if they continue to be the only team in the league to actually beat Buffalo. It'll still bug you, but I think you could live with it.

They are limited by their ownership, a group of investors that are basketball fans, but happened to get the Thrashers as part of the deal from Time Warner/AOL. I was impressed with their start this year, but having Kovalchuk get hurt obviously is a huge blow to their chances to do well. Being the ATL, Atlanta is not a hockey town, and their fan base mostly comes from fans from other cities that have settled there. I agree, they do a great job working in the community, much better than the Hawks, Falcons or Braves.

That is very nice of the Thrashers. Until they start selling out on a regular basis, they should be giving out free tickets to kids EVERY game. PS That little boy's family has my sincerest condolences. What a horrible way to have a child taken.
