The Sabres have been feeding on the detritus of the league. That doesn't necessarily mean their record is overrated though. All the good teams would be feeding in the same way.

It is kind of scary that we're at 6-1-1, a nearly identical record to our start last year at 6-0-2.

Wednesday's game will be a very good test. The Devils are a solid team and Brodeur looks as though he's found his groove again. This could very well be the starting Canadian Olympic goalie versus the starting US goalie. That's exciting in and of itself. If Buffalo can take care of the Devils in a solid victory, I will start to become very excited for the season.

Yeah, and Lindy's going to be working with Mike Babcock this coming winter for Team Canada. That has to be a very bizarre arrangement - competing against your starting goalie in the NHL during the Olympics.

Didn't want to start a new thread.. Just some observations:

1. Carolina had a six game losing streak and Toronto had a seven.

Carolina has a seven game losing streak and Toronto had an eight game losing streak to start the season.

2. Toronto with just two points.. Ouch. Lets hope they don't double that total Friday.

Toronto has four points.

5. Vancouver, Detroit, Anaheim and Minnesota are bottom feeders. The West is upside down this year.

Vancouver started 0-3. They've gotten somewhat back in track since then, at 6-3 over their last 9.

7. Minnesota 0-8 on the road. Toronto hasn't won in front of the home town folks either.

To add to that, Tampa Bay, New York Islanders, and Carolina have a combined 0 wins in 15 road games.

8. Pittsburgh and Buffalo only teams undefeated on the road.

New Jersey is also undefeated (although Boston may change that tonight).

Edit: as I was typing this, New Jersey beat Boston to stay undefeated.

9. Colorado only undefeated home team.

Amazing for a team that many thought would be among the league's worst.

11. Pittsburgh has the best GF-GA differential at +17, Toronto is worst at -18.

Buffalo is first in goal differential per game at 1.44 to Pittsburgh's 1.42.

Another note: Buffalo is the only team in the league that is still undefeated in games in which they have been outshot. They're currently 3-0 in such games.

Sorry, but Jerseys on that list that are awesome:

Toronto St.Pats

Hartford Whalers

Colorado Rockies

The Coyotes should be on the "What were they thinking" show.

I had the same list after going through that. I thought "how can you include the Whale?!"

I also kinda like the black Carolina jerseys. Of course, I kinda liked the Sabres' black goatheads, too. Black it too common, but that's because it looks good.

I like the black Carolina jerseys, but I don't like watching them during a game. It just looks...wrong.

Jerseys:

- Some of those aren't that bad, the Whale being the best example.

- The Ducks jersey reminds me of those costumes when you were a kid that had a picture of a superhero on the front. I think the Simpsons make a joke about that back when the show was funny.

Sabres are back up to #5 on the ESPN power rankings - 11/16 edition.

Devils

Sharks

Flames

Capitals

Sabres

I realize these rankings mean nothing in November, but the Flames in the 3rd slot is a little strange considering Buffalo just beat them.

Sabres 12-4-1, Flames 12-4-2.

Somehow, the Sharks have 22 games played already...14-4-4.

FWIW TSN has the Sabres in the third spot with the Flyers in second and the Sharks in first. Power rankings don't mean much but we don't seem to be getting much credit for two gritty victories back to back against top ranked teams.

Probably because they one had one quality win prior to those.

Tampa has the fewest regulation losses in the league, so I'd say the win in Tampa was quality. And the wins over the Islanders look more impressive as the season goes along.
