Ted's Hot Dogs Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Does anybody think a deal gets done in the near future?
Corp000085 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hopefully. I actually love Matt the Rat on ESPN as an analyst.
ROC Sabres Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Does anybody think a deal gets done in the near future? I don't know about a deal getting done, but it has seemed like ESPN is finally starting to "forgive" the NHL. I haven't seen as much coverage of the NHL on ESPN in the last two years that I have so far this year. I even think over last weekend they had 2-3 in the top 10 plays.

Let's see if it keeps up once the NBA regular season starts.
wjag Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 I've noticed this, too. Let's see if it keeps up once the NBA regular season starts. I agree. It's only because baseball is winding down and the NBA hasn't started. It's called fill.. ESPN can't cover every baseball game in detail now showing every freakin strikeout...
deluca67 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Do people still watch ESPN? With the NHL and NFL networks why would anyone need to.

shrader Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Like a Denver Colorado hotel employee. Wow, not the kind of joke I would've expected from you. Nice work.
Two or less Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Yes they will. As soon as the NHL gives in and gives ESPN all 7 games of the finals a deal will be reached. ESPN wants to atleast air one of the sports titles live on their network. NBC isn't exactly all too happy with the ratings for playoffs and finals and only thing keeping them happy is the winter classic. In the next TV deal, i think the winter classic will be sold as a separate game. Versus will get Monday and Tuesday. NHL Network Wednesday ESPN2 Thursday NBC winter classic ESPN has been wanting NHL to fill their Thursday night schedule for a while and they already hype their Thursday night hockey coverage by a lot. And they have no games.
Ted's Hot Dogs Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 Dont you miss this tune...... or

Then both of those networks are going to want exclusive deals since they're not exactly fond of each other. Comcast views ESPN as competition for VS while ESPN could care less about that station.
Eleven Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Do people still watch ESPN? With the NHL and NFL networks why would anyone need to. I seldom watch Sportscenter at home, but I'm not always at home. Hotels, restaurants, bars--Sportscenter is a lot more common than NHL network.

wonderbread Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 I always think it's funny when a bar has sportscenter on given how the show is 90% talk now. And I still hate the fact that MTV doesn't show videos.

From the stuff i've read, once NBC is out of the picture, ESPN would probably also take over Saturday afternoon/Sunday afternoon games in January after football. It's all about money though. ESPN is desperate to have a championship on it's network and NBA, MLB and NFL are way too pricey for them. NHL is in their price range.
LabattBlue Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Do people still watch ESPN? With the NHL and NFL networks why would anyone need to. Because if you have TW, you have to pay extra for the NHL Network(Know I know where Quinny got his tiered pricing from) and can't get the NFL Network no matter how much you pay.

I don't pay extra.

I completely expect them back with espn at some point, but I can never see them on both VS at the same time.

ROC Sabres Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 And I still hate the fact that MTV doesn't show videos. They show videos. Trailers for the upcoming reality TV show that they pulled out their ass is a video. But yes, even VH1 is falling into the "we only show reality tv" category. MTVU still shows videos. If you can get it anywhere other than on campus that is.

I was in college when MTV came on the air... I can remember doing my homework to it. It is completely unrecognizable now.
Vanek Nation Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 The contracts for versus and NBC are up at the same time. Smart move by the nhl, gives them some leverage. Hopefully espn, which I expect they will, will jump in.
Buffalo Wings Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I always think it's funny when a bar has sportscenter on given how the show is 90% talk now. But with their crawl at the bottom of the screen, you can still see news headlines & score updates. And if you're at a bar trying to watch Sportscenter, you probably need more of a life.
