Stoner Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Anyone check out his early-season faceoff numbers?
carpandean Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Yeah, I did earlier. Pretty sick. Edit: 2nd in the NHL behind Atlanta's Peverly.
Two or less Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I saw this the other day, one of my friends send me a link on FB. Very impressive for sure.
Kristian Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Yeah, I did earlier. Pretty sick. Edit: 2nd in the NHL behind Atlanta's Peverly. Actually, nhl.com has Goose at 68,3% and Peverly at 67,7% as of today. Man, this guy needs to be taking more draws, or at the very least teach Connolly how to do it. On a sidenote, it's nice to see Brind'amour at 53,3%.
inkman Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Gaustad sucks, he's a pansy , and an overpaid 4th liner.

Patty16 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 at $2.5 million he would be an overpaid 4th liner. He is a beast on faceoffs, no doubt about that. But hes paid too much.
carpandean Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Actually, nhl.com has Goose at 68,3% and Peverly at 67,7% as of today. Last night's game has been added in since my post. Gaustad was at 67.0% when I checked. Man, this guy needs to be taking more draws, or at the very least teach Connolly how to do it. I said it in another thread, but it seems that all of the poor faceoff players on the team go to Goose for help, and to me, that's not a great idea. Goose is 6'5", 225 lbs. He uses his size for leverage and literally forces his opponent out of the way (how many times have we've seen him on one knee, completely taking over the dot?) Conversely, Connolly is 6'1", 190 lbs; MacArthur is 6'1", 191 lbs; and Kennedy is 5'10", 176 lbs. Can these guys really learn anything from Goose? They don't have the size to win faceoffs the way that he does. They should have taken lessons from Moore when he was here.
nfreeman Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I noticed in last night's game that Goose took the faceoff in a PK situation, won it, and then immediately went to the bench to get replaced (which he was able to do since the Sabres had possession). Interesting little wrinkle.

Interesting little wrinkle. I'm just going to assume that this was while the Grier-Hecht combo was out there. They're good penalty killers, but I don't want to see either on the faceoff dot.

Pretty sure I saw it happen twice when TC was on -- so Gaustad took the draw (with TC there in case Gaustad got booted), then went to the bench for Pommer.
korab rules Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Gaustad sucks, he's a pansy , and an overpaid 4th liner. He's also slow, and he can't win draws against the top lines of other teams. Oh, and he sucks. :bag:
