Gaustad on faceoffs

Yeah, I did earlier. Pretty sick.

Edit: 2nd in the NHL behind Atlanta's Peverly.

Actually, nhl.com has Goose at 68,3% and Peverly at 67,7% as of today.

Man, this guy needs to be taking more draws, or at the very least teach Connolly how to do it.

On a sidenote, it's nice to see Brind'amour at 53,3%.

That ship has sailed.

Last night's game has been added in since my post. Gaustad was at 67.0% when I checked.

I said it in another thread, but it seems that all of the poor faceoff players on the team go to Goose for help, and to me, that's not a great idea. Goose is 6'5", 225 lbs. He uses his size for leverage and literally forces his opponent out of the way (how many times have we've seen him on one knee, completely taking over the dot?) Conversely, Connolly is 6'1", 190 lbs; MacArthur is 6'1", 191 lbs; and Kennedy is 5'10", 176 lbs. Can these guys really learn anything from Goose? They don't have the size to win faceoffs the way that he does. They should have taken lessons from Moore when he was here.

I noticed in last night's game that Goose took the faceoff in a PK situation, won it, and then immediately went to the bench to get replaced (which he was able to do since the Sabres had possession). Interesting little wrinkle.

I'm just going to assume that this was while the Grier-Hecht combo was out there. They're good penalty killers, but I don't want to see either on the faceoff dot.

Pretty sure I saw it happen twice when TC was on -- so Gaustad took the draw (with TC there in case Gaustad got booted), then went to the bench for Pommer.
