What do you want? He's leading the team in goals despite being seventh -- SEVENTH -- in ice time per game among the forwards.

I'm not too broken up about his ice time just yet. We've been playing with leads and we are 5-1-1.

No harm in saving him.

That hardly counts as scoring a goal.

That's just straight up, a goal scorer's goal. I don't know what you were watchin'.

Maybe he'd get more ice time if he spent less of it loafing around the ice. I understand he tends to play that way, but the guy should be at least a point per game player at the salary we're paying him. I want our stars to match effort with the lower lines, and I'm not seeing it yet, despite a solid win.

I'm glad we won this game. Onward.

Tough seeing that money come out of your checking account each week, eh?

Give me a freaking break.

Something pretty interesting might have happened there. Did Vanek deliberately kick Voukon's pad?

Myers is still getting credit for that one goal? Unless my cataracts came back, Roy deflected it.

Roy never touched it. It was the goalies glove that deflected it.

I thought so. I absolutely thought that was going to be called back.

This is how I saw it.

You know, PA, they say Florida weather does wonders on "older" eyes, just sayin.... :D

But it's not illegal to kick the goalie's pad to knock the puck into the net. Right? I've never heard of it.

The replay I saw sure made it look like Roy got his stick on it before glancing off the goalie's glove. Trajectory of the shot sure seemed to change as the puck whizzed past Roy's stick.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but he's only tied with MacArthur in goals.

I don't know if i agree with that at all. It was an ugly goal for sure but when you crash the net, good things happens. Just like coaches always tell the point men, if the puck makes it on net, good things will happen.... rebound, deflection, or even a goal (like Myers goal for example)... Vanek crashed the net and something good happened. IMO i'd give him credit for it for finishing the play.

Vanek has 4 goals in 5 games played. I'd say that is pretty impressive.

As for the game... very good. Five goal first. Usually teams who play as poorly as Florida in the first do come out flying in the next 40. Surprised Buffalo didn't score any more but i'm not surprised Florida started to play well. I wish we didn't allow 41 shots though. First several games our defense was rock solid and now we are allowing tons of shots. Although, i don't think Miller was very tested at all. It was more quantity then quality IMO.

I hope Tim Connolly is buying Ryan Miller's dinner tonight. Would it have really killed him to take a actual stride and back check on the Panthers second goal?

It might have. Rumor has it that he's a little fragile.

Vanek had his legs pushed out from under him as he rushed the crease. Not sure anything after that was deliberate.

"A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks any equipment (stick, glove, helmet, etc.) at the puck, including kicking the blade of his own stick, causing the puck to cross the goal line. 49.3 Match Penalty – A match penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who kicks or attempts to kick another player."

I'll double down here after apparently misvisualizing the Roy tip and say that Vanek did kick the goalie's pad on purpose.

eball, it's been a while since I've seen you around here. Welcome back!

Watch the replay, the opposing player swept his legs out from under him, causing him to fall on his ass and slide into the goalie.

Miller and Myers already on the beach. Just abominable, abominable turnovers. I think Roy saved the day after Miller's handout.

Miller wasn't sharp enough for your taste? Are you joking?

Correct. Now that was crappy goaltending.

I don't have much to add other than this: we can 2nd-guess Lindy all we want for playing Lalime vs Atlanta, but it sure didn't hurt Miller. He is in the zone. After that performance I want to see Lalime play the 2nd half of every back-to-back.

Also: Kaleta still has the gift. He makes the other team insane. They literally can't control themselves.

Overall, the Sabres came out determined to dominate, did so with the assistance of poor goaltending by Florida, and then relaxed after building up a huge lead. It's hard to draw many conclusions from this game. I want to see them come out just as determined vs. Tampa.

The TC-Pommer PP goal was pretty nice. It would be great for Pommer to get dialed in.

5-1-1 after 7 games.

So Dominic Moore ended up with the Panthers... never did follow where he went.

nfreeman was right all along. IIRC, he said about Dominic Moore late last season that "there is NFW we are keeping him."

I tried to find the quote but I couldn't pin it down. Nevertheless, after I read that comment, I certainly didn't dismiss his observation as being "out there". It certainly had merit and it was proven to be true.

I don't dispute that. But his right leg also whips into the goalie's pad. Probably just a natural reaction to falling. The reason I said the goal might be very interesting is that Vanek possibly kicked the goalie on purpose. Possibly. We'll never know.

Does he remind you of Matthew Barnaby? Man, could that guy yap and talk trash to get under other players' skins.
