The Bruins traded Kobasew to the Wild for a couple of players and a pick. This is one of the guys Boston got back.

Craig Weller with his own version of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. 1st guy gets hammered with a hard check, 2nd guy comes to his defense and gets knocked to the ice and the 3rd guy gets a punch in the face for his efforts...

PS I saw this video on yahoo in an article talking about the trade.

It's a money dump more than anything. The dumped $2+ million in Kobasew. Weller makes only $600K, while the Harvard kid they brought in is 4+ years away and the draft pick is even further off.

Not really. They get rid of more salary then they get back because they traded away the better player. They needed Weller for toughness due to Lucic being out 4-6 weeks. It's no coincidence they made the trade the same day Lucic has been ruled out on long term IR.

(in my bestest Butthead voice) That was the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Why can't the Sabres have someone like that on their roster. I would wake up every morning with a smile on my face.

Keep your fingers crossed that Kassian is that guy!

Believe that if you want, but they could've brought in Weller for a lot less if they wanted to.

They offered a guy who is struggling for a guy they needed, hours after they learned Lucic was going to be out for a while. With the amount of people they have to re-sign, they won't lose sleep over losing Kobasew as you said it saves salary but to say they did it as a move to dump salary is just dumb. They could have traded him at any point this season for much more, especially if he started to play well again. They could have traded him only for picks if they truly wanted to dump salary and if they really didn't want the salary, he'd be long gone and one of their kids from Providence would have been up. They didn't wait until Lucic got hurt to deal him for a reason.

To make blanket statements like this without using google is just...you get the point.

The Bruins received three assets in return: Craig Weller, a 6-4, 220 forward who, at 28, has probably reached his potential as a minor pro useful as an occasional call-up

Sounds like he's ready to fill Lucic's shoes.

I like how the 3rd one refers to Weller as a prospect. Is there such a thing as a 28 year old prospect? Maybe Mark Mancari will help us figure that one out in a few years.

Tim Thomas anyone?

Wait, he wasn't a prospect until he was more like 31.
