Stoner Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 He went up the boards, pretending to fist-bump the fans behind the glass, like players do when they come to the bench after scoring. See it here: http://www.youtube.com/user/mcskyns#p/u/0/uC6rvrKeQkU Love it. Thought this might branch out into favorite goal celebrations over time, and goal celebrations no one has done... yet.
wjag Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Are you talk about him knuckle rapping the glass?
drnkirishone Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Thats was pretty cool him doing the bumping fists with the glass/fans like that. I dont recall seeing anyone else doing that one yet.
Stoner Posted October 18, 2009 Author Report Posted October 18, 2009 Are you talk about him knuckle rapping the glass? Yeah.

Gotta love Kaleta's matt the rat barnaby style celebrations too
SDS Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I guess I don't remember many other than Briere's wind-up, fist pump. I think Max's dive on the ice after scoring in OT against the Rangers was pretty classic.
Barnabov Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 yeah I thought that was a pretty cool celebration too. Gotta love Kaleta's matt the rat barnaby style celebrations too I'm loving Kaleta's contribution this season - really nice to see some offense go along with his traditional skills of hitting & agitating. Would be great to see him continue to develop in the scoring area. Even if you hate him or love him (like me), Barnaby put some decent scoring effort into his career.
carpandean Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I must say, there's something about the way that Kaleta celebrates his goals that would make me hate him even more as an opposing player. He already has a "rat" look with that pseudo-goatee and for some reason his goal celebrations make me think "rat" even more. Fitting that he shares that with Matt the Rat. As for the original point, I like that celebration from MacArthur and it would be cool if he made that his home goal celebration. Kind of like the Lambeau leap for the Packers.
Stoner Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 When did the glove-bumping at the bench start anyway? I've said this before. I really wish the league would relax the rule about players not being able to leave the bench to celebrate a goal (other than in OT of course, and a shootout-winner). It was pretty cool back in the day to see the bench empty for a special goal.

It was pretty cool back in the day to see the bench empty for a special goal. Actually, I kind of lean the other way - Joe Paterno told a freshman player who did an elaborate celebration after scoring his first touchdown (prior to the NCAA clamping down on such things) to "act like you've been there before. Don't give the opposition any extra motivation. After you score, toss the ball to the ref and go back to the bench." (I'm paraphrasing, of course). I think it is fine for all of the guys on the ice (and bench, too) to raise their arms, pat each other on the back, etc. but the march to the bench to bump/slap gloves has become a little too trite for me. Score the goal, everybody pat each other on the back and then either change lines or line up for the face-off. While I'm at it, I also find it extremely annoying to see the entire bench (coaches included) staring up at the scoreboard to watch the replay of a goal. I think it smacks of narcissism to watch yourself scoring a goal while the game is still going on. Plenty of time to watch your cool moves on the 11:00 news (or more likely, YouTube). Yeah, I'm an old curmudgeon.......

Yeah, I'm an old curmudgeon....... I tell my kids to act like they have scored a goal before, and that they are going to do it again real soon. I agree that excessive celebration and the line going down the bench is not necessary, and probably just serves to piss the other team off even more. As far as unique celebrations, I am partial to Satan rolling over on the ice(to get the monkey off his back) after one of his long, frequent goal scoring droughts. It had a message, and made me chuckle.
BillHoppe Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 FYI: Not to get off topic, but MacArthur is sick. He went to the doctor's this morning and is flying with the team to Florida.

Yeah, I'm an old curmudgeon....... They can learn a lot from watching any of those replays. You can see where the other team is positionally and how goalie reacts to a shot. With all of the hours today's athlete's spend in the video room, that jumbotron is essentially an on the spot video session.
apuszczalowski Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 I like Goal and TD celebrations, it shows the players are having fun. As long as they are not directing/taunting any of it to the other team, I don't see whats so wrong. They are playing a game, they should have fun and have fun with the crowd. Whats next? Should the fans "golf clap" when goals are scored so other teams don't get offended or hurt? I might be the only one who enjoyed seeing Ovechkin do his "Hand warming" stick on fire celebration

But I've also seen coaches and players alike check out the board for the silly stuff, like the Kiss Cam. You wonder where their focus is.

You wonder where their focus is. Speaking of the kiss cam, whatever happened to putting it on the opposing players for a chance at hilarious reactions?
