Corp000085 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 7:30pm Will Vanek play tonight? Everything written and said so far says no... That doesn't mean jack squat though. I suspect he may play tomorrow for sure. Tonight, I'd like to obviously see a victory. Also, this weekend is a good time to start Lalime one of these games. I'd play him tonight and Miller tomorrow. Win this one for Dick Jauron baby!!!
wjag Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I'm going to be back in WNY again tonight. Getting ready to drive to the "land of the ice and snow'... Weather looks pretty crappy.. Hoping the Southern Tier is cleared up by the time I hit it. Buffalo (4), Atlanta (3) and Isles (4) have played the fewest games in the league. Everyone else has at least five and as many as seven..
cdexchange Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I look at tonight's game as an even more important "test" than the Wings game was. It's a test of whether or not these guys will continue to play "down" to the level of their inferior opponents, or if they will look upon these games as golden opportunities to gobble up important points. Coming off a hot start to the season and a huge win on Tuesday, it will be extremely interesting to see how much effort is put forth tonight. This is a statement game. Make a statement that you are not the same bunch of cocky underachievers that you have been for the last two years, coming out flat and losing to the dregs of the conference. Play hard now so you don't have to claw and scratch so desperately in March and April. Go Sabres.

The sleet's coming down pretty good here in Boston, hopefully afternoon flights are not too delayed cos I'm coming back home for this game!! Go Sabres!!
JujuFish Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I'm looking forward to tonight's game to see how the team responds. Here we have one of only two teams that has yet to lose in regulation up against one of only two teams that has yet to win. If Buffalo shows up and dominates in the same way as they have been, not taking this game lightly, I will be...I dare say, giddy.

tom webster Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Just remember, while the Islanders haven't won, every game has been a one goal affair with 3 of them going to overtime. This has all the makings of a snooze fest and will be a good test of the team's new patience and discipline play.

Win this one for Dick Jauron baby!!! No need to start Lalime. Four very obtainable points. Why put them at risk? Time to break out all the cliches. Quick start, pucks to the net, stay within the system and don't give the Islanders any reason to believe they can win the game. As TW said, could be a snooze fest. Grind out the two points and don't worry about entertaining the home crowd.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 They are going to lose sometime, probably when we think they should not. Unless they go to N.J. on the 28th at 7-0-1, people are going to say it's the same old Sabres ... personally, as much as I will hate it if they lose this weekend, I'll be THRILLED if they can win 3 of the next 4 and go to NJ at 6-1-1 ... even though that loss will have to be against a "lesser" team. Why am I looking so far ahead? Well, due to circumstances beyond my control, I will be unable to watch either game this weekend live ... I am going to try to do the impossible ... record both, avoid the Internet and the Bottom Line, and watch them without knowing the outcomes on Sunday morning ... wish me luck .... I'd say I have about a 30% chance of puling it off, it's going to be torture.
shrader Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Personally, I'd sit Vanek for both games if there is any question at all about his health. There's no sense in putting him at risk this early in the season.
SwampD Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Who's in goal for the Isles. We won't see Biron, will we? That'd be fun.
LabattBlue Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Grind out the two points and don't worry about entertaining the home crowd. I'll be there, it's a Friday night, the crowd will be primed  and I want to be entertained. Grind it out some other night! :D
Cereal Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I'll be there Here's to hoping your curse is reversed this season and the Sabres pull out the win tonight  And here we start going with the "this is the most important game so far this season" every game.
spndnchz Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 It's official, Ruff said Paille's taking Vanek's spot on that line with Roy and Staff. I'm up in the suites for this one. Woo Hoo free booze!

spndnchz Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Did he mention Miller or Lalime? Patty should get the start tonight I would think? Damn, I forgot to ask, let me call him back and see.
inkman Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Damn, I forgot to ask, let me call him back and see. I don't think Mrs. Paille would appreciate that. ;)

I've seen every game live all year but I'm gone this weekend and without centre ice so I'd rather PVR them both and watch them Sunday morning then just check out the box score live. I donno if I have the strength not to check.

I'm 1-0 so far as I was at the Detroit game on Tuesday. :)
Two or less Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Who's in goal for the Isles. We won't see Biron, will we? That'd be fun. Dwyane Roloson is starting for the Isles. Should be a good game. As long as they stay away from the box i think we should win. Isles are winless but they can skate very well and watch out for Tavares. He was scoreless last game for the first time in his career, i'm sure he's hungry to get some points. Stamkos killed us at home last year.
SabresBillsFan Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Personally, I'd sit Vanek for both games if there is any question at all about his health. There's no sense in putting him at risk this early in the season. I agree I would rest him the next two games and give his body a chance to heal. No need to play him so early in the season and risk lingering effects.
spndnchz Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 From TV's website: Tom's Blog New entry: October 16th 2009 - Tom gives a rough schedule for his return. October 16th 2009 Sad, but true, I won’t be playing against the Islanders. I’m doing better each day, but neither the team nor I want to put my health at risk. We’ll see how it looks like tomorrow against Atlanta. Either way, I’m certain I’ll be ready to play next Wednesday in Florida. With all due respect for the Islanders: The way we’re playing right now the team should be fine without me, especially playing in our own barn. Everybody in the locker room is very positive right now, everybody’s sticking to our new game plan so far. I hope we’ll do that also against the Panthers and the Thrashers. We know how much is at stake. Last season we lost some crucial points exactly against these so-called “bottom feeders”. We can't afford to take even one shift off against any team.
inkman Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 With all due respect for the Islanders Uh oh, as Jim Rome likes to say, someone is about to get disrepected. Last season we lost some crucial points exactly against these so-called “bottom feeders”. We can't afford to take even one shift off against any team. While not entirely damning, I wouldn't be surprised if this is already circulating around the Isles lockerroom. You just don't say anything of this nature before an athletic event. It almost always comes back to bite you in the ass.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 "Tom's Blog"?!?! Who the hell is Tom? Not criticizing him, I am just stunned. Does he introduce himself as Tom Vanek? Tom Vanek is not a 40-goal scorer. Tom Vanek is a seventh defenseman on the Atlanta Flames in 1977-78 or something with a cheesy porn mustache. I don't think i could ever call him Tom Vanek. Just sayin'
