inkman Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 We are having a big office debate right now. It started with me telling a co-worker that a younger female friend of mine asked me if I had a leather jacket. I, of course, responded with a yes. To which my friend proceeded to laugh and call me old. I recite the story to my co-worker, who is an Italain residing on the west side of Rochester, tells me "#%^$#! that, I see n******s wearing that #%^$#! in the hood all the time." I told him the west side of Rochester isn't exactly a fashion mecca, to which a whole east side west side brewhaha starts. Anyhoo, are leather jackets out of style? Am I super gay for asking this?

Gay. And no they aren't. You just have to be the right kind of person to pull it off. Since when does wearing a leather jacket make someone old? That's like asking someone if they wear jeans.

Only if you are wearing the pants to match...
wonderbread Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Here in Pittsburgh you can tell when fall is coming as the Yinzers break out the black leathers on queue.
inkman Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 Come to think of it, asking a bunch of dudes on a hockey forum fashion info is probably a poor choice. Unless I wanted mullet advice or porn stash grooming tips.
jwcolour Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 No they aren't out of style... though it depends on the jacket, like if you had some super cheesy patch on the back. And it does kind of take a certain person to pull it off, but as with all things they are coming back into style again..
TM8-PL16 Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 depends on what type of leather jacket you are talking about... I have one but there are so many different kinds of leather jackets. Biker jackets, dress jackets, trench coat style, 3/4 style, etc...

Just match it with a nice pair of assless chaps.

LabattBlue Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I'm not helping your side of the argument Ink, but I have a plain black waist length leather jacket. Not something I wear very often, and when I do it is only in the winter as it is lined.
Mbossy Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I have two leathers, one for the Harley and one car length. I wouldn't be caught dead in any of the above three.
wonderbread Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I have two leathers, one for the Harley and one car length. I wouldn't be caught dead in any of the above three. aaaahhhhh People of walmart strike again!
SDS Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 All chaps are assless! true, but the term isn't nearly as funny! Plus, I think most people associate the term with a bare ass and not chaps over jeans or similar.
Mbossy Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Close to chaps. Heading for the carrots and bananas I'd guess.
inkman Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 Not nearly as hot as this action
SDS Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Not nearly as hot as this action My self-loathing runs too deep for words for not thinking of "People of Walmart" 1st. :censored: They make $1000 a day...

I told him the west side of Rochester isn't exactly a fashion mecca, to which a whole east side west side brewhaha starts. Anyhoo, are leather jackets out of style? Am I super gay for asking this? You are not super gay for asking. However, the use of "anyhoo" says otherwise... :) Now, I think the type of leather jacket is important to the question. If you have a black leather biker jacket, I'd say that does not make you gay or old. If you have a Michael Jackson red leather jacket, one with lots of extra zippers, one with a cheesy graphic and/or brand name, that's kinda gay. If you have a bomber jacket, a leather jacket that buttons rather than zips or a leather sports coat (or leather vest or (God forbid!) a leather tie), that makes you kinda old. Lastly, if you own this: You are both old and gay.
jwcolour Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Is it the 8 ball? Actually I changed my mind. You can't have a cheesy patch unless its a badass 8 ball.
shrader Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Actually I changed my mind. You can't have a cheesy patch unless its a badass 8 ball. All signs point to yes.
deluca67 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Close to chaps. Heading for the carrots and bananas I'd guess. How is this not a caption this photo thread? I'll go with "Shall I be dating a zucchini tonight or a eggplant?"
Taro T Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Come to think of it, asking a bunch of dudes on a hockey forum fashion info is probably a poor choice. Unless I wanted mullet advice or porn stash grooming tips. What the frig is wrong w/ leather jackets, mullets, or porn stashes? I've been out of circulation waaaay too long.
inkman Posted October 16, 2009 Author Report Posted October 16, 2009 I have two leathers, one for the Harley and one car length. I wouldn't be caught dead in any of the above three. I wanted to reply in the complaint thread but obviously I can't. I've been rocking (pun intended) the front pocket wallet for the better part of the last 20 years. Here is where I shop for mine. I'll attach a pic as well. I can't rave enough about them. Don't be Costanza!
UncleWally Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Anyhoo, are leather jackets out of style? Nah, leather, just like pea coats will always be in vogue. Now, some various styles, (bomber, trench, types of leather used) might go out of fashion, but the 'leather jacket' will never go out of style. Denim and leather coats are American fixtures. Different denim cuts, colors and styles just like leather come and go, but the basic 'denim jean' will always be an American staple.
