bob_sauve28 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Does he fit anywhere on this team? Seems like he had a great season when the NHL was enforcing the rules but since then he has sort of been passed by. Paille actually seems like the player who would be a better fit in this game.
wjag Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt still. He is very responsible player on the ice.. You only notice him for his lack of scoring and your expectation that he should be. He strikes me as a perfect NJ player. His scoring will come. Now Hecht on the otherhand......
inkman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Paille actually seems like the player who would be a better fit in this game. Sure, in the AHL.
Patty16 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 i have never been big on pominville. I dont like how he has a tendency to skate down the right wing and take half slappers from the boards. Hes not a great skater either. He got a bigger contract based on his #s he put up on the conf finals team. We havent seen that player for a while now. So far this season hes continuing his trend from last year.
Eleven Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I know it's not what we're looking for out of him, but he had a good defensive game yesterday.

carpandean Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 He got a bigger contract based on his #s he put up on the conf finals team. We havent seen that player for a while now. He had career high in goals (34) that year, but he followed it up with a career year in assists (53) and points (80) in 2007-08. He still had 27 goals that year, too. Last year, in a let-down season, he still put up 66 points. Most of that came down the stretch, too. He was definitely more suited for the New NHL, at least offensively, but he's always remained pretty solid defensively. The game has changed and I believe that he has it in him to figure out new ways to contribute offensively. He may never get back to 80+ points or 30+ goals, but I suspect he will consistently put up 60+ points and 20+ goals, and may get back over 70 points and 25 goals.

I think the main problem is that 23-42-65 and good all-around play is probably worth about $3.25MM per year, not $5.3MM. $2MM here, $2MM there, and pretty soon we're talking about real money (and, more importantly, a good player who we can't afford b/c we've wasted the money elsewhere).
Stoner Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 A snapshot of Pominville came last night early in the third when he was carrying the puck down the right wing through the faceoff circle in the Phoenix zone. One of the Coyotes EASILY jarred him off the puck from behind. Like a lot of his teammates, Pominville needs much more resolve in his game. Purpose, anger, determination... whatever.
Barnabov Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt still. He is very responsible player on the ice.. You only notice him for his lack of scoring and your expectation that he should be. He strikes me as a perfect NJ player. His scoring will come. Now Hecht on the otherhand...... Why was there no mention in the Buff News article of waving Hecht to make room once Mair returns? Of all the contracts on the team, his currently seems the worst - 3 more years - 3.8 mil this year & 3.5 mil the two after. If the Sabres threw in a fantasy date with Darcy Regier and a whole lot of praying, maybe some other team would claim him & and a lot of cap space would be free'd up - space we can only hope would be used to better the team and not banked into team P&L. I would absolutely prefer to see Hecht waived - the worse that can happen is he goes & plays in the AHL and either gets his game sorted out or not. Waiving Tallinder seems short - sighted - his is a more tradeable contract and we're virtually guaranteed to have injuries on the blue line which need filling.
inkman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I would absolutely prefer to see Hecht waived He's been noticeabley better in this short stint. Not 3.8 million better, but better none-the-less. Right now it looks like Kennedy and possibly Paille on the bubble.

shrader Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Based on the 1st 2 games, I think Kennedy will get sent down when a roster move needs to be made. That's the impression I get. He seemed mostly invisible last night. He's looking like the guy who gets to shuttle back and forth all season.
inkman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 That's the impression I get. He seemed mostly invisible last night. He's looking like the guy who gets to shuttle back and forth all season. Barrie Moore!
SabresBillsFan Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Pom's is a very solid two-way player. The scoring will come from him just be patient. I like the way Pom's plays the game he solid in both ends of the ice. So what more could you ask for.
Two or less Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 That's the impression I get. He seemed mostly invisible last night. He's looking like the guy who gets to shuttle back and forth all season. Atleast he made it far enough to get rid of his nascar number for a real number. haha
inkman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Atleast he made it far enough to get rid of his nascar number for a real number. haha Myers number on the other hand...
Two or less Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Myers number on the other hand... I wonder how that process works. Will they give him his #3 if he plays over 9 games? Or would they wait til next season?
Buffalo Fan Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Does he fit anywhere on this team? Seems like he had a great season when the NHL was enforcing the rules but since then he has sort of been passed by. Paille actually seems like the player who would be a better fit in this game. I was staying at a hotel room in Laval last month...stopped in their lounge area where they had a free happy hour. The kid working there said most Montreal fans (I assume he means most Quebecois Canadian fans) really want to see Pomminstein in a Habs uniform. Possible trading partner...
Derrico Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 He's been noticeabley better in this short stint. Not 3.8 million better, but better none-the-less. Right now it looks like Kennedy and possibly Paille on the bubble. I know that this thread isn't about who gets waived/sent down but man I'll be reallllllly pissed if they send down Paille. He doesn't bring it every night which is frusterating but he is a 'power forward' type player that when he's on....he can be one of our better players. I think the league is reverting back to the 'old NHL' and we need him.
X. Benedict Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I know it's not what we're looking for out of him, but he had a good defensive game yesterday. I agree. Having Grier and Pomminstein on the ice to lock down a one goal lead in the final minute is a nice combo to have. They both made a few outstanding plays.
