Blazedal Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I think he'll stay up this season. Every thing i saw from him in game one showed that he was ready to play at a nhl level. he'll only get better from here.
... Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Would this be a Buffalo market team if they kept him here? I search my soul and I come up with "no". It would be so "Buffalo" to send him back down - the reality of that truth supersedes the reality on the ice.
carpandean Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I'll admit that I wasn't convinced in preseason. However, if he continues to play like he did Saturday, I hope that they find a way to keep him up, like they did with Butler last year.
nfreeman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 It's a reasonable question, especially in light of numerous questionable decisions by the FO over the recent past. However, he looked really, really good on Saturday night. There were long stretches of the game when he was their best d-man. If he keeps that up they can't send him down.
inkman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 All of the Sabres coaches and management must have scabs on their knees from all the love they have been giving this kid. I can't imagine how they could send him down at this point.
Mbossy Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 It will be interesting to see how he handles more games in less nights. He did not seem winded or in any 'pain' in the post game pressers. IMO, Darcy is worried about losing that extra year and possibly having to pay him more money sooner. It'll also be interesting to see who wins the fight. Lindy when he wants him to stay or Darcy when he doesn't want to lose that year.
rickshaw Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 The Sabres are cheap. I voted him to stay up, but that cheapness side just might come to the forefront. They need him to stay. It's the changing of the guard and he's the future. Hell, maybe others will see it's not so tough to clear the crease when someone enters it.
inkman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 The Sabres are cheap. How so, they are 1 mill short of the cap?
rickshaw Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 How so, they are 1 mill short of the cap? Historically they are cheap. Yes, they are at the cap, which could mean they send back Myers so they don't have to pay him and start year one of his contract. Personally, I think if he's playing well enough to stay, they should keep him. It should be based totally on his on ice play. Unfortunately, I think the Sabres could base their decision on $$$$. As for them being at the cap. I think that has a lot to do with overpaying some players that aren't worth it (Hecht, Tallinder to name a few) as well as the fact they basically 'had' to pay up or risk losing their entire fan base (after the Briere/Drury debacle)
sweeper Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 If anything, the cheap way of doing things is keeping Myers around and shipping someone else (see: Tallinder) out and getting rid of their salary.
LabattBlue Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Probably not a fair comparison, but I thought Butler started off like gangbusters when he first got called up and then his play tailed off quite a bit for the bulk of the season. I voted that he will be sent back down. I have lost faith in this organization to make the right decision on any matter.
inkman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 If anything, the cheap way of doing things is keeping Myers around and shipping someone else (see: Tallinder) out and getting rid of their salary. Myers counts 1.3 mill against the cap, so keeping him while trading Tallinder (getting $$$ in return most likely) probably wouldn't save them all that much money. It's a move they should do, but only because Tallinder can't play hockey anymore.
nobody Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I think having Myers contract start this season is too much for Darcy. He'll play his 9 games and then go back. I could see that the team keeps him up for more then the first 9 Sabres games by having him sit out a few games so he'll stay up for more practice time.
Blazedal Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Doubt it. They're keeping him in a hotel "for the first 9 games of the season" He'll play.
LabattBlue Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Doubt it. They're keeping him in a hotel "for the first 9 games of the season" He'll play. huh???

It's a move they should do, but only because Tallinder can't play hockey anymore. Hank is making something like 3 or 3.5 million this year. Myers' 1.3 is obviously a large discount, especially if the Sabres only have around a million in cap room as it is. I don't really have an opinion as to what they should do except see how Myers plays over the next 8 games. But if the Sabres are as cheap as everyone wants to say they are, what I suggested is the best thing to do as far as the bottom line goes.
todzilla Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I'm afraid they will send him back, but really other than saving a few bucks, what does it accomplish? He has nothing to gain in Juniors, and it's not like there is a clear better option on the team now. So lets get this guy in there and hope for the best development wise. It seems so obvious that I'm sure we'll screw it up.

It seems so obvious that I'm sure we'll screw it up. They might not want to waste one of the years of his contract with this current roster. A couple of bad contracts will be coming to an end, so maybe we could have some better talent with the same money. That in conjunction with younger players coming along (Kassian) could be why they would want to save him for later.
wjag Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Done deal. He is going down at some point.. And of course I mean down to the minors people...
darksabre Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Myers getting sent to the minors would be like the Bills retaining Jauron. We want the opposite, but we already know what's gonna happen.
spndnchz Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 He's done all he can in Juniors He's shown he's not nervous about playing in the NHL. He makes better plays than half the D on this team. He takes the puck up ice better than half the D on this team. When Lydman comes back that have to sit Tallinder and play Meyers. I'd rather eat salary than eat games.

However, do you really think Tallinder will sit?
spndnchz Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 All absolutely true. However, do you really think Tallinder will sit? With Lydman back, absolutely. Well, at least on my sheet.
darksabre Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 With Lydman back, absolutely. Well, at least on my sheet. In a common sense world, yes. Tallinder would be glued to the press box for the rest of the season.
