shrader Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I'd expect that Pittsburgh's 3rds are considered to be "vintage" or a vintage/3rd combo which allows them to skirt the rule. Much as Buffalo's 3rds in '07 were a combo of the old road blues and the # on the front. Because the team couldn't come out with a 3rd that year (because of the uni change), but they could have a vintage; only problem was the vintage wasn't a true vintage. (They didn't wear the right pants with it either for what it's worth. How expense would shells w/ stripes up the sides have been?) And, the Sabres COULD wear the old Bisons colors. Remember, the eye on the Buffalo is red on the revised old style sweaters (as it is on the abomination which shall not be mentioned as well), so red is a color that is available to the Sabres in a 3rd. By my count, they have 5 colors available to them in a 3rd (navy, white, gold, silver/gray, and red). If the revised whites have some black on them somewhere or some other shade of some other color, that would be available to them as well. Going from navy to the blue of the Bison jerseys is the big question though. If you start letting teams change the shade of the color they're using, that opens a lot of doors.
PromoTheRobot Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 I saw this suggested for a new 3rd jersey on another board... http://cgi.ebay.com/BUFFALO-BISONS-CCM-JERSEY-SIZE-ADULT-LARGE-NEW_W0QQitemZ330345075776QQcmdZViewItem#ht_1028wt_972   I love the old Pepsi jersys. I think the Sabres missed the boat by not having a 40th anniversary celebration of the Bisons last Calder cup. They could have worn the bottlecaps. Maybe bring back some old Bison players like Trottier and Villamure. That would have rocked. PTR
tulax Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 I think Philly is loaded. They remind me of the Sabres' post-lockout teams -- loaded with a bunch of guys who can score 25+ goals. They also have Pronger now. I'll be pretty surprised if they don't make the conf. finals at least. Keep your eyes on Claude Giroux. The kid is an absolute stud.
darksabre Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Keep your eyes on Claude Giroux. The kid is an absolute stud. I think van Riemsdyk is the real deal too.
shrader Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 I think van Riemsdyk is the real deal too. JVR was incredibly disappointing at UNH. Consistency was not his game.
carpandean Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 So, were we wearing our thirds or our homes tonight? (Note: I watched the game, so I know what uniform we wore; I just don't know what to call them, now.)
nobody Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 So, were we wearing our thirds or our homes tonight? (Note: I watched the game, so I know what uniform we wore; I just don't know what to call them, now.) This season; those would be the thirds.
Sabre Dance Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Interesting that the team chose to wear the third jersey in the home opener. Also interesting was that the logo they used on the Jumbotron over the Sabres score was the original one. Yes....verrrry interesting.

Also interesting was that the logo they used on the Jumbotron over the Sabres score was the original one. Yes....verrrry interesting. It just shows they can lose in any jersey. I don't care what they are wearing. I just want them to win.
Kristian Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Going forward I am only referring to Quinn as 'Baby Arm'. He is the dangling useless appendage of the Sabres organization. That'd be funny if he wasn't also making the decisions for them.
inkman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Embarrassing Interesting that the team chose to wear the third jersey in the home opener. Also interesting embarrassing was that the logo they used on the Jumbotron over the Sabres score was the original one. Yes....verrrry interesting embarrassing. Fixed. The organization is quite frankly, just embarrassing. Not Buffalo Bills embarrassing, but LQ continues to play himself the fool.
nfreeman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Fixed. The organization is quite frankly, just embarrassing. Not Buffalo Bills embarrassing, but LQ continues to play himself the fool. We'll see. I liked a lot of what I saw on Saturday night. It's quite possible that they have a good season. That would go a long way towards putting the embarrassing decisions of 2007-08 in the rearview mirror.
inkman Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I liked a lot of what I saw on Saturday night. Maybe it's just me (and PA), but I wasn't overly impressed. Vanek was invisible, the new "mature" Roy wasn't, Connolly might as well have been injured, Pominville and MacArthur were JAG, Goose, Grier and Hecht had most of the teams scoring chances and that scares the hell out me, Tallinder was a disaster and somehow Montreal wins with 2 completely sucky goals.
Sabre Dance Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Fixed. The organization is quite frankly, just embarrassing. Not Buffalo Bills embarrassing, but LQ continues to play himself the fool. Yes, you are correct....thanks for fixing...
darksabre Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 I just want to point out, that I'm watching a Stanley Cup recap of the 1969 Montreal v. St. Louis series, and the Habs are wearing their darks at home.

darksabre Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I think the NHL strated wearing white at home in 1970. I could be wrong tho. I think so too. Also, they showed the series from 71 afterwards, and the teams were wearing whites at home, so that would make sense.
SwampD Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 In case anyone is keeping track, the Slugs are 1 and 0.
carpandean Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Bump. The Slugs are 2 and 0 Still have a long way to go before they offset last year's edge in the thirds.
