end the curse Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 99 points...I'm shockingly optimistic about this season.
deluca67 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Not enough for the playoffs but enough for team Status Quo to justify bringing pretty much the same team back for a fourth uninspired year.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 86 points... The only way this team makes the playoffs is if they get out to a blistering start. I mean like 10-3....9-4 sort of start. Their first month is a gift and if they are anywhere near or below .500 after their first 13 games....it will be a long year. A racehorse with no heart doesn't go from being a claimer to a stakes winner just because he got a year older. Montador and Greir just mean you will lose a few more 3-2 games instead of 5-3. The team can throw out 1 1/2 scoring lines and while the 3rd and 4th might be more gritty than in years past....nobody will put the puck in the net.
R_Dudley Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 I'll go w/ 95 which probably would get them 7th or 8th and hope they can stay healthy enough to get to 97 which would be enough to get them in. Only one that picked my number I'm down with 95 as well. I agree if the moon and stars align and the key players(e.g Vanek, Conolloy, Miller, Rivet) stay healthy it tacks on 2 or 3 more points..

Realist Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 92 and they just miss out on the playoffs again. They're not doing enough to make this team better.

carpandean Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 I'm usually optimistic with these things and we've come up short, so I'll try something different: 65 points. How does everyone feel about Vanek/Hall as our #1/#2 left wingers? Do we take the risk of drafting a Russian with Kabanov? How about center Tyler Seguin? We certainly could use more Tylers. Ah, the ol' reverse psychology works again. We do need more Tylers, though.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 thanks for playing twiddle dee and twiddle dumb. And where was your prediction flamer??? You Tyler Ennis types really like to rub things in while taking on no risk of your own.
Stoner Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 And where was your prediction flamer??? You Tyler Ennis types really like to rub things in while taking on no risk of your own. Well said. I thought your outlook was uncanny. A little shy on the points, but still...
SDS Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 And where was your prediction flamer??? You Tyler Ennis types really like to rub things in while taking on no risk of your own. I rarely play the prediction game. I watch the game for enjoyment and I know that at anytime - any team can put something nice together. It serves no purpose for me to run a team into the ground before the 1st puck drops, and for some people, every puck that drops during the season. I think many fail to realize that one day the Sabres WILL win the Stanley Cup and they will come to the realization that they wasted an entire season bad-mouthing the future cup winners. There's no point in watching if you don't enjoy it.
Two or less Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 98 points. Not a bad prediction by me, eh... although i think we'll get over. lol
SDS Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Well said. I thought your outlook was uncanny. A little shy on the points, but still... He was wrong on virtually every point. What is so uncanny about that?

I have expectations....and hold myself and others responsible for their effort and productivity. If I got jollies off by having zero expectations and assumed fait controlled outcomes....I'd sit at home flipping a coin all night. By the way.....where did I badmouth them all season? If you look at the Chart pinned thread by Carp, I stated boldly when the Sabres were stuck in a disgusting slump that they showed too much talent and were about to turn it on big time. I got made fun of by another Prius owning Sally in that thread as well. The Sabres started hot....they made the playoffs. Miller played a full season....they made the playoffs. I don't expect them to do much there as Miller will be playing game 75 this year when the puck drops. I hope they do well as they aren't as revolting a team that they were a few years ago...but I don't expect much noise. If you want to say I missed this prediction...fine.....but i didn't see you giving me credit when I said this team had no heart during the '06-07 season and the front office was about to screw the pooch going into July 1st. Excuse me if I don't pop champagne tonight for an organization that went from a supposed #1 in the world to an also ran overnight.

Whatever the ###### that means.

matter2003 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Not enough for the playoffs but enough for team Status Quo to justify bringing pretty much the same team back for a fourth uninspired year. how bout enuff to go virtually coast to coast other than a few games at the top of the division?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 By the way.... EVERYONE here who gave a serious prediction of points would have given the Sabres enough to get into the playoffs unless the Rangers win out their last 3 games. It goes to show what a joke the NHL point system is. The West has 58 more points than the East. Almost 4 full points on average. The East average for points is just under 87. The west is just over 90.5 The Sabres are 9 points higher than the average NHL output...or 10% Not taking anything away.....just saying that points in this case was not the best fit for predictions as 70% of the board is right on....but I didn't see many Championship predictions.

I know you know the old adage, "no one ever killed himself with an unraced two year old in the barn." Hope is an important thing. It is not always necessary to demean peoples' hopes and aspirations, just because you think they are unrealistic. And sometimes, like here, they were met--the team has done better than expected. Just because we might not win the Breeder's Cup Juvenile, we at least have a nice allowance runner, maybe a small stakes winner. And you can dream of a Derby next year, if you get lucky. If that does not make you happy, then you are in the wrong business.

That Aud Smell Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 96 points. hope it's enough. 96 points 96 points(7th place in the conference) what they said. weren't too, too far off. 98 points. #6 in the EC. well done there - hopefully we end up a bit north of that number - interesting that 98 was enough for 3rd in the EC. 103 4th in eastern likely overshot the eventual total by just a bit, but also well-played. 102 this may well be the winner.
