Notice that there's no meat in this discussion, only man gravy for a couple of popular captains. Maybe you will impress me by laying out the case for so and so as the best captain in Sabres history. Exactly what did Schoeny or Pecs or Floyd Smith do, in his role as captain, to earn this honour? Once again you miss the point. I have no informed opinion of who the best captain was or is, just anecdotal stories, both pro and con. The point is that everyday I go to this site and see if anything interest me. I do not find the need to make myself feel better by belittling someone's decision as to what to post or respond to. When a thread gets my attention, I read further and decide if I have a worthy post. I may respond in a way that some might find offensive, and for that I am constantly apologizing but if someone wants to post who had the best helmet in Sabre history, so be it. All I ask is that if you are presenting something as fact, please be accurate. If you are posting something that is your opinion, please say so. I realize, however, that even on these last two points it is only my opinion as to what is or is not important.
Eleven Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 Maybe because, literally, every captain in team history (through Briere and Driery) left the organization in one unpleasant way or another? That is mostly true, but that's not the reason. I just don't recall there being five great captains. Barnes and Gare were kind of the best of the rest, in my eyes.
