buffaloaggie Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 CBS Sports....I always look to them as the hockey experts  Miller should be at 10 or 11. Putting Rinne, the Masons and Hiller after one year is pretty ridiculous. Out of them, Steve Mason deserves the recognition. The others are definitely wait and see. I agree, Miller is on par with Fleury stats wise. Miller can't put a Cup on his resume, but at least Team USA gave Miller recognition. Of course, Team USA didn't have much to choose from. DiPietro? Ty Conklin? Think about it, when Miller got steamrolled by Gomez last year, pretty much every one of you thought the Sabres playoff chances got steamrolled too.
Stoner Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 It's kind of like a snake biting its tail. On the one hand, I think you have to take the team into consideration. Would Hasek have had fewer shutouts on a less defensive-minded team? Probably. But if the team had any offensive talent, he may have had a Cup or two in Buffalo. And on the other hand, perhaps that team was built to play defensive hockey because of the slinky-for-a-spine in net. To cover for Dom you mean?

Eleven Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Not wanting to start another thread Luongo gets 12 years Saw that. And all Pat Kane had to do was apologize and pay costs. You call that justice?
SteamRoller72 Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 I seen this on CBS Sports.com http://bleacherreport.com/articles/244026-the-top-15-goalies-in-the-national-hockey-league?ref=featured_slideshows#page/1 6 problems with that list: Vokoun and Chris Mason are not top 15 NHL goalies. Vokoun was benched several times in the past 2-3 seasons for Craig Anderson. Mason is a good journeyman goalie, not a "build your franchise around" guy. After the 2007-08 season, Nashville replaced him with Dan Ellis, who in turn lost his job to Renne. Lundqvist and Kiprusoff are too high on the list. They belong on the list, but in the 7-10 range. Hiller and Renne? The list is based on 2-3 year performance and these 2 are one year wonders. They may both turn out to be NHL star goalies one day, maybe in 2011, not 2009. Miller and Turco belong on the list.

rickshaw Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Roberto Luongo is currently a better goalie than Brodeur is. Career, no, not yet, but the torch has been passed imo. Miller is better than many on that list. I'd point out at least 5 guys but I'm not saying he's the best. Miller plays too many games. He's not made like Luongo is and if he played 60 games tops, he'd have better numbers at the end of the season. The problem is Ruff wears him out and that is why you see nights where Miller is very average. He doesn't play on a defense first all the time team like Brodeur does. But that list is terrible imo.
JujuFish Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Ryan's overrated only in Buffalo. The stats back up his ranking. Refreshing to see the truth for once. But it'll hurt among the fan base, that's for sure. Miller was top 10 in SV%, SO, wins, and points percentage last year. How does that back up his ranking?
SteamRoller72 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 ame='SteamRoller67' date='02 September 2009 - 03:06 PM' timestamp='1251918399' post='162317'] I think you're wrong on Kipper and Lundqvist (just my opinion), but good call on Turco, and you're right on with Hiller and Renne. Kipper is a personal thing with me. I have the Center Ice package and watch several hundred games a year and I picked Calgary to come out of the west last year. 2 things I learned from that pick: Don't pick Canadien teams...they all suck. Never rely on Kiprusoff in the NHL...Olympics is a different story. Kipper flat out stunk the joint up. .884 save % 2-4 W-L record 3.52 GAA
Stoner Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Miller was top 10 in SV%, SO, wins, and points percentage last year. How does that back up his ranking? "The entire player's career will be looked at with more emphasis put on how they have played in the last two or three years." Yes, Miller was 8th in save percentage last year -- someone call the HOF! -- but he was 29th and 16th the two years before. He was 18th in GAA last year and 24th and 20th the two years before that. He was 11th in shutouts last season but 20th and 24th before that. So, besides having a wee bit of trouble stopping the puck, he's top 15 material. And number 1 in our hearts.
