Two or less Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 UFA forward Jeff Cowen signs with Buffalo. According to Sabres twitter. Must be for Portland...
... Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 You mean Cowan? This dude? http://canucks.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8462419 Must be, it says BUF on the page.
Sabre Dance Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 UFA forward Jeff Cowen signs with Buffalo. According to Sabres twitter. Must be for Portland... Or for the deal that Buffalo is supposedly working with San Jose (see LabattBlue's post in http://forums.sabres...m-is-slacking/)
X. Benedict Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Wow. Adding to the collection of willing but mediocre fighters.
... Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Wow. Adding to the collection of willing but mediocre fighters. No sh*t. Damn, come on Sabres, this is getting monotonous.
shrader Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Wow. Adding to the collection of willing but mediocre fighters. It almost looks like an open tryout for that 13th/14th forward slot.
darksabre Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Darcy is using Youtube for his scouting I think... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8ppElOy0TI
Stoner Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 No sh*t. Damn, come on Sabres, this is getting monotonous. All part of the bamboozling of the fan base/ownership IMHO.
wonderbread Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Darcy is using Youtube for his scouting I think... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8ppElOy0TI I didn't know that Ray Romano was doing color for Vancouver.
Stoner Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I didn't know that Ray Romano was doing color for Vancouver. LMAO.
wildcat48 Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Sabres add another forward to the Pirates bounty Portland, ME — It would appear the Portland Pirates have another piece of the puzzle, barring any setbacks from Buffalo Sabres training camp, as Sabres’ GM Darcy Regier announced today that they’ve signed Jeff Cowan to a one-year deal. apuszczalowski Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Has anyone ever mentioned to Darcy that he is the GM for the Buffalo Sabres? But I guess he thinks its more important to stock up the AHL with guys that probably wouldn't make it past the sabres 4th line
Hawerchuk Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 OK, this guy probably will go to Portland IMO. But c'mon, Buffalo needs another scorer on the wing and/or center. I think all the fans know this except Darcy. Mats Sundin would be perfect, even though it won't happen, but a guy like him.

But I guess he thinks its more important to stock up the AHL with guys that probably wouldn't make it past the sabres 4th line Signing players for Portland is as much a part of his job as signing them for Buffalo. I have no idea why anyone would react so negatively to something simple like this. If you want to look at it another way, someone needs to be there to mentor and protect the Kennedy's, Gerbe's and Enroth's in the system so that they can continue to develop and hopefully turn into complete NHL players. How exactly is that something that people need to bash Darcy for?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I didn't know that Ray Romano was doing color for Vancouver.

They only sign fighters! Drury! Connolly gets hurt! Wah wah wah!

It seems as if the board has gotten extremely whiny as of late. Before it was just Deluca we had to tolerate, but some other posters have made my favorite message board slightly less enjoyable.

X. Benedict Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 All part of the bamboozling of the fan base/ownership IMHO. No way. These are no-name light heavyweights that maybe less than 10% of fans have heard of. Organizationally - they must want protection for players in Portland.
Stoner Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 No way. These are no-name light heavyweights that maybe less than 10% of fans have heard of. Organizationally - they must want protection for players in Portland. Oh, OK. Thanks for correcting me. X. has spoken. You remind me of Ronald Reagan, who once famously said, "I may be wrong, but I'm never in doubt." SABRES SIGN JEFF COWAN is the screaming, and I mean screaming, headline on sabres.com. Who exactly are the Sabres trying to convince that they're getting "stronger, grittier, tougher, meaner"?
carpandean Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Darcy was a terrible GM for letting Grier of 2006 go...Darcy is a terrible GM for signing Grier of 2009. Not saying that it makes it right, but that's the correct statement. Organizationally - they must want protection for players in Portland. I seem to remember him saying exactly that earlier this summer.

Who exactly are the Sabres trying to convince that they're getting "stronger, grittier, tougher, meaner"? Geez man, what a douche play. Just my opinion. Nothing sacred about it. They've signed 3 guys like this. They aren't all roster players. Season tickets are already sold. I've never asked anybody for special status here.
wjag Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Anything, and I mean anything, the Sabres do to get tougher, I'm all for...hmm dejavu to the dejavu again...

sabresfan36 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 who are these people gonna fight if the sabres are signing all of them
