KK6666 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Neither one of you knows what Tallinder's problem is, if he has a problem at all. Thank you, because I really get annoyed with fans who claim to know what a player's frame of mind is..
KK6666 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Mediocre players have no personality. Gaustad has a personality and he can win faceoffs. Faceoffs and a personality, that's what the Sabres are getting for $2.3 million a year? What good are high scoring players when you don't have hard winning the puck and getting it to them. Gaustad and Kaleta open up nothing for our skill players, they don't skate on the top lines
KK6666 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Vanek, Connolly, Rivet, Miller, Gaustad, Kaleta, and Butler are definitely not mediocre players. And we have no idea how Pominville, Hecht and Roy will perform(which sucks). I Holy cow. Let me see if I got this right. Kaleta and Gaustad are DEFINITELY NOT mediocre players while we have no idea what we're going to be able to get from Derek Roy, which really sucks. This is hockey insight at it's finest. Have you ever considered a career as a sports writer?

Gaustad and Kaleta open up nothing for our skill players, they don't skate on the top lines Gaustad sometimes centers a power play line, and he's not too shabby at it. He does a good job of standing in the middle and screening the goal. In those situations, he does create opportunities for the wings and point men.

He does a good job of standing in the middle and screening the goal. In those situations, he does create opportunities for the wings and point men. He's not battling for pucks along the boards as he is standing in front of the net on PPs. Beyond that, With Vanek injured it became clear to anyone paying attention that Stafford is far more effect in front of the net on the PP than Gaustad. For the amount of ice time Gaustad chews up in front of the net on the PP his point production is extremely poor. Either way this has zero to do with Gaustad opening up ice or digging out pucks for skill players. To review it, Gaustad and Kaleta do not play on the top lines and therefore they do not open up ice or gain possession for skill players. There is nothing to argue here because this stuff... What good are high scoring players when you don't have hard winning the puck and getting it to them. is complete fiction. It stands to reason that if Gaustad and Kaleta were getting the pucks for "high scoring players" they would also be high scoring players by running up assists.

The two words in bold represent my only problem with Gaustad. If he brought his physical game every night I wouldn't give a crap if he ever scored another point for the Sabers. I know I banged the drum hard against Briere's one dimensional game. I would give Gaustad a pass for being one dimensional if he goes into this season with a huge chip. Any chance one of you like nfreeman, crosschecking or inkman could nail his girlfriend or something? Imo, a physically dominant Gaustad would be more valuable than a healthy Tim Connolly. Unfortunately that is like comparing Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny at this point.

deluca67 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Don't quit your day job. It's always nice when the little children stop by. Now move along sonny the adults are talking now.
Two or less Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I don't see Gerbe, Kennedy or Myers on this team on opening night either. I think Myers will get a few games but not full time. I would like to see Weber in instead of Nathan. I think it's time Weber gets his due. I don't. He needs to earn it. Just like Pominville and Roy had to earn their spots. Remember we had to send Pommer down via the waiver wire to get him in Rochester? Mike Weber was a awesome, Rhett Warrener type player for us his first year, but he struggled a lot last season. He played bad in pre-season and from all i read last year, he wasn't the same in practice either. He went to Portland unhappy and had a poor start then got injured. He shouldn't be handed anything. Let's hope it was only a sophomore slump, and that Butler will avoid one. If Weber plays like he did in 2007, i'm sure Lindy Ruff will find a spot for him. If he doesn't, he'll play in Portland.

What good are high scoring players when you don't have hard winning the puck and getting it to them. Kaleta has a personality and he's a great pest. Butler is kind of a quiet guy but his personality comes out in his play. He knows what he's doing out there and he's going to be great this year. No message board board will offer the insight and intelligence you'll find here.
