Grier signs with Sabres

True. Although he hits clean and is a physical presence...he's not one to throw hands much these days.

I agree, although I would add that he will be in the middle of the fray if anyone takes a shot at Miller. I expect his presence alone will deter some of that stuff too.

But his hits can knock the other guy onto the ice.

The Grier signing is nice, but when are they going to pick up a center. Peca is still out there. You could playing him sparingly and give Kennedy some experience while saving Peca for the stretch run. The season is a grind and Peca may not have enough gas in the tank for a whole season, but part of one and I believe he can still bring it. He showed he could in stretches last year.

Anything, and I mean anything, the Sabres do to get tougher, I'm all for...

Wow... I just had a deja vu moment...

Hey, I said I read the first thing listed on this site, you said there was nothing so I posted it. Not sure what else you want

You had characterized it as a Mike Grier love fest.

You had characterized it as a Mike Grier love fest.

The link Callaway posted contained some pretty nice pro-Grier comments: "Wow, between him and Rivet I might be rooting for Buffalo in the East next season"; "nice, yeah they're a pretty fun team to watch"; "today they gained someone who is one of the hardest working players in the game. Best wishes to Mike Greer in Buffalo"; "I'll miss Grier and his hard work and great attitude"; "I'm glad he got picked up he's a really hard working player and deserves to play somewhere"; and "Good for Grier!'

What was inaccurate about what Callaway said? I'm not sure it was a "love fest," but I didn't see Callaway use that phrase, either. Am I missing something?

Let me start by saying that it'll be great to Mike back; definitely the type of attitude that this team needs.

That said, my one concern is this: everyone here is penciling him in on the third line and talking about how this means a trade is eminent, but as of right now, he is our second-line RW and gives us 13 forwards. Currently, no trade is necessary. If we re-sign Stafford or another top-line RW, then I will hold my breath for an "impending trade." Until then, it just means that we will have two third-liners in our top six, MacArthur or Hecht on the left wing and Grier on the right wing.

Of course, as I say that, I start to think about a Vanek-Connolly-Grier line. Hmmm ...

Side note: props to kamikaze63_99 over at LGS, who posted this last night at 8pm:

Off topic:

The Sabres have signed a gritty winger to dig into the corners and bring some serious leadership to the mix. The contract was negotiated last week - I have no terms.

I cannot reveal who it is, however. My source has forbidden me to do so. Safe to say you will be "surprised" - I think most of us will be quite happy.

That being said: I know something you don't know LOL

Add him to your list of people who are "in the know."

Sylvester knew late last week and "couldn't tell anyone" I guess he told this dude...

stafford has had his house for sale since feb. He has dropped the price from 215 to 190 for his condo. I think hes a goner

Or he's upgrading due to the 300% raise he's about to get...

i need coffee. i read that three times before i realized it wasn't a reference to the guy's weight.

good point. sounds like a reasonable hedge in either circumstance.

I've stood next to his condo, and no way it's 215. I'd say 205 max.

If you don't like the signing, fine but now you're just starting to create argument where there isn't one.

That's how he rolls! If you can't stand the heat, stay out of PAFan's kitchen.

Was it late at night and you were looking through the windows? ;)

LOL... touche'....

P.S. We won last night 2-0 and still finished last. That being said we went 4-1-1 in our last five games and will be dangerous in our playoffs.

I saw this while on vacation. I was shocked to say the least. DR goes out and signs a vet for the 3rd or 4th line. Excellent!

Unless Kaleta stays healthy and really steps up his game (which is possible), I'd say (assuming we sign Stafford or Horton or Zherdev or ...) that Grier is a lock on the third line. He actually said on WGR that the Sabres felt they had a hole on the right wing of the third line that he could fill. He will also provide depth for the scoring lines. Not for point production as much as for doing the dirty work for the more skilled forwards.
