SDS Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 In order to thwart spammers, we have the ability to ask simple questions that are easy to answer by a human, but hard to answer by a spambot. What do you think about a riddle that says: Answer this riddle: A knowledgeable Sabres fan would add "1" and "1" and arrive at what number? Answer: 11 Not only would that keep spammers out, but maybe raise the bar a little higher for people to join? ;) Bad idea?
darksabre Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 You don't know how much I like this idea. I would show you, but the thumbs up emoticon doesn't work. :(

shrader Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Well, #2 is hanging in the rafters too. But yeah, that other number was the first thing to pop into my head. Do we really get all that many spammers around here? I have no problem with keeping them out though. So if this works, it's good with me.

My previous protection was a field where you had to input exactly 8 numbers. Spambots search the web and auto-register/auto-post like crazy on any forum they can. I just thought this might be a clever way of doing this since they added this new "question and answer" feature.

Yeah, it seems like a good idea. And the added bonus of only bringing on new posters who aren't completely clueless can't hurt either. I just wish you had something like that the day inkman signed up.
carpandean Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Damn, I was going to say 0. 1 dead bat + 1 "No Goal" = 0 Stanley Cups.

nobody Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Maybe you'd like me if I took you for a spin in my new ride. :D Does the ex know about your hidden wealth?
inkman Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Does the ex know about your hidden wealth? I'd hardly call a $30,000 roadster an exclamation of wealth, but it makes delivering pizza a shitload more fun.

SDS Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 I don't get it. you don't get what?
Stoner Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 you don't get what? Maybe why you'd want to ask that question. A lot of younger knowledgeable fans aren't going to get it. And what if some non-fans want to join? Like in the playoffs -- fans of our opponent. We've had some good conversations with folks like that.
nfreeman Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 The answer is: Spndnchz's frustration during rush hour. In Buffalo? so it takes 14 minutes to get where you're going instead of 11?
Eleven Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 you don't get what? I'm kidding. Look at my screenname...
wonderbread Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Maybe why you'd want to ask that question. A lot of younger knowledgeable fans aren't going to get it. And what if some non-fans want to join? Like in the playoffs -- fans of our opponent. We've had some good conversations with folks like that. You could ask who the head coach is. That would take a person to figure out. Or perhaps who is the greatest hockey pbp man is in the world! Or what the name of the building is that the Sabres play their home games in. The name of the old arena. The team colors.
carpandean Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Maybe you'd like me if I took you for a spin in my new ride. :D How's the mid-life crisis going? :P
spndnchz Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 In Buffalo? so it takes 14 minutes to get where you're going instead of 11? No, it's each of middle fingers in the air. ..l. .l..
Eleven Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 No, it's each of middle fingers in the air. ..l. .l.. I thought you were just saying hi.

Stoner Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 No, it's each of middle fingers in the air. ..l. .l.. That's mine! And you messed it up. Only four fingers?
inkman Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 How's the mid-life crisis going? :P Great. Smoking "things" I haven't since high school. Check New bar for the living room. Check Sweet ride to compensate for "things". Check. Over indulging in "things" with the new hot blond girl. Check. Yep, I'd say the crisis is in full effect. :D
