That Aud Smell Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 As much as I like him, a summer training regiment of sitting at yo mommas house eatin' chips won't get u ready for the season. and the foundation for saying that is ...? (link?)
North Buffalo Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 interesting. what's the rationale there? i watched exactly 2 ottawa games last year that weren't against buffalo. however, an old friend of mine who was raised in ontario and has lived in ott'wa since he was out of college is a big fan, and this was exactly his take on the senators: they are a middling team with one great line that looked like a world-beater last year whenever they played buffalo. Agreed, they had one great line and a pretty good checking line too, but would fall a part when pressed. The Sabres never pressed their top line well or for that matter any of their other lines. Other teams knew how to play them and didn't have a complex about it.

What is with the pink on the multi-quote... Yuck
Patty16 Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 As I said: People say that we need to get tougher, but it wasn't our third/fourth liners that other teams were calling soft; it was our top-six and, in large part, or defense. We need one or two wingers willing to battle hard in the corners. Guys who are tough to play against and have skills, too. Every signing so far this Summer has been decent, but the big holes haven't been touched. In addition to not adding any grit to our top six, we still don't have any depth at scoring-line center. Until holes like these -- which are going on three years as obvious -- are addressed, every other signing, good or bad, will be met with sarcastic over-appreciation. Exactly. Adding another scrub 3rd or 4th liner doesnt make this team that much better. STicking up for your teammates and being tough is great, but these guys dont play the minutes to make a huge difference in a game. This team has not positioned itself to place any different in the standing than the past two years.

You'll have the villagers after you carrying their torches and pitchforks and yelling "they signed a top four defensman." B-) The Sabres lost their best blue-liner in Spacek and didn't replace him. And that's fine as long as Weber finally takes that next step. A defense of Rivet, Tallinder, Lydman, Butler, Sekera and Weber may be a bit inexperienced but growing pains are part of the process. If Weber doesn't cut it the Sabres may have some problems.

I will note for the record that you still haven't come up with a coherent response to the fact that Montador was top 4 last year for 2 better teams than the Sabres, and also that you are on drugs if you don't think he's going to play in the top 6 this year. Having said that, I would like very much to see Tallinder gone (and could live with Lydman gone) and Weber in his place, and would be very happy with both of them gone and Weber and Myers in their places.

I'm sure we all expect that Tallinder will be with the Sabres this season. So at least Montador will be on the 2nd pair to eat some of Tallinder's minutes and if the young guys step up and take over some of Spacek's scoring role then perhaps the D will be at least as good as last season.

Or U r complaining that we got a decent Dman for less than half that? Or that we haven't gone and spent 3.8 million that they don't have on someone else? Or that we didn't get rid of Tallinder or Lydman or Connolly in time to be able to get a 3.8 million dollar dman?
