Two or less Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 After a brilliant season in the ECHL "where Lamoureux was named the league's rookie of the year and goalie of the year" the 2008 Hobey Baker finalist has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres. deluca67 Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Now there is a hockey name. I hope he makes it some day. I would buy a jersey. I may order a Pirate jersey this season.
shrader Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Now there is a hockey name. I hope he makes it some day. I would buy a jersey. I may order a Pirate jersey this season. It's one of the most impressive hockey families at the college level in recent years. JP was a Hobey finalist in '08. His brother lead the nation in scoring last year at Air Force. Then he's got two younger twin sisters that were both top 10 in the nation in scoring last year as freshmen (and are now transfering from Minnesota to North Dakota). No one's ever going to hear much about any of them though since it's pretty doubtful that they'll ever take it to the next level. I'm just glad to finally see the name spelled right, since the Sabres couldn't successfully pull that one off at the prospect camp.
inkman Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 He spent time at the Sabres D-Camp. The one day I went, he looked the best of the lot, including Enroth. Of course playing against a bunch of rookies is a little different than NHL or even AHL skill level but take it FWIW.

I'm sure that factors in a bit.

Despite being slightly older, I wouldn't be shocked to see him overtake Enroth for the starting job at some point this season. I just don't think Enroth is that good.

I just don't think Enroth is that good. Based on what? Enroth dominated early part of last season for Portland. Late in the season he kind of fall apart, it was mostly due to Pirates having injury problems, which forced him to play a lot of back to back games. And in Europe, he wasn't used to playing such a schedule, of so many games in such short period of time or length of schedule. So based on common sense, he wore down a bit. Not really sure how based on his season in Sweden and then based on his season at Portland, anyone can say he's not that good. I understand opinions but come on, the kid is proving it night in and night out.

The fact that it was his first year playing the North American pro schedule is a big one. Yes, there will be a learning curve, but he's far from "proving it night in and night out" at this point. He needs to show that he can adapt to that schedule before he'll start proving anything.

It's purely opinion based on nothing more than my own gut feeling, that Enroth will not progress into a full blown NHL caliber goaltender.

Allthough I don't know what "full blown caliber" means If he can back up 25 games....that would be good enough. Keep in mind the Pirates were very thin at D. Enroth played in more games than 8 Pirate defensemen. Nobody has really backed off his prospects.

As in NHL caliber, but not championship starter material.

LabattBlue Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Kevin Dineen Thanks. I didn't realize "reporters" who cover a team refer to people they report on by nickname. Next thing you know Bucky will be referring to "The Skill" in his column.

nobody Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Same last name as mine :D It means "Loverboy" in French hehe Short bus loverboy. You're making it too easy for us to pick on you! ;)
spndnchz Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 "Their top prospect in the whole organization right now is Jhonas," Lamoureux said. "He's a great goaltender, and he's certainly going to get the opportunity right out of the gate. But I feel like I'm that caliber as well. I think I can be a No. 1 goalie in the American League this year. But if I don't get that opportunity, I'm going to play well in the games I get and make sure our team in Portland makes the playoffs. Whatever role they need me to play, that's what I'm going to do." From NHL.com Lamoureux gets closer to NHL dream
