Don't blame Bam for these threads. Blame Regier. Regier is like the wife who no longer puts out. The Eck rumors are nothing more than internet porn to get you by. If Regier actually made trades and signed actual hockey players that could help this team than there would be other things to talk about other than rumors. Like internet porn and a box of tissues, Eck is the only satisfaction Sabre fans can get.

i sort of liked this metaphor, to a point.

i don't think, though, that the analogue to a wife who no longer puts out is regier or the FO; it's really more just the composition/culture of the team generally and how many fans have come to feel about it.

i realize that the rejoinder is "well, who put that team together?!" fair enough.

i just don't get with the idea that regier should be freely making trades and signing FAs in order to overhaul or blow up his roster. the principal reason for that being: i don't want regier in charge of blowing up his own roster, i want someone else to do that when the time comes; for now, i want regier to succeed or fail on his terms. if he fails for another season (or *gag* two), then he should be gone and we can have someone else come in to take a fresh approach.

You've said dumb things in the past (that's an understatement), but this one just might have topped them all.

It's the perfect analogy. Message boards like these exist because fans don't get enough entertainment out of the real product. We create our own reality here. (Of course when teams are good and fun to watch, message boards are teeming for another reason.)

I mean, check out the gameday threads. People are chit-chatting DURING the game. The eyes can point in only one direction at a time, Ryan Miller notwithstanding.

So Darcy Regier is completely responsible for everything that Eklund writes? That reaks of a "the world revolves around me" attitude from any fan that would suggest it. I'm sure he mentions every single team in the league throughout his created "rumors". But yeah, it's all about Darcy Regier.

it's far from a perfect analogy, and i think the point you go on to make, PA, points it up.

fans get only so much out of watching the game as well as cheering for and keeping tabs on the team. but they want more; hence the proliferation of fantasy leagues, message boards, and the like.

sticking with the angle deluca took, i think the closer analogy is someone who has a spouse/girlfriend who puts out, but nonetheless gets into pornography for the more "imaginative" aspects it can offer.

okay, i really need to get a life.

and take a shower.

I would suggest a cold one.

They are rare, but IMHO you are having a bad posting day. That's OK. I'd rather have it come now than next April.

Once again.. I'm not Eck...I'm not a plant...or anything else.

Jeez. I'm just a sabres fan who finds it entertaining.

If you don't want me to post it...I won't.

Nah dude, go ahead and post. I would assume people not interested in a good laugh would steer clear of these things.

I'm think any ball-busting (if any at all) you might get for this is just a result of frustration, cause let's face it - It'd be nice if just one or two those outrageous rumors were true for a change.

My 2 cents anyway.

I'm sure whoever hands over the cash gets their city connected to more names. There are a bunch of subscribers from Buffalo...he has to keep them subscribers.

Don't think that the media in general aren't willing to get extra attention for a franchise in return for favors. Not that Ecklund deserves respect as an actual media contributer, but if it is known he has a captive audience from Buffalo, he may have the silent or not so silent blessing of the front office to run with BS because it keeps fan interest whipped up. If most fans were lulled to sleep a few years ago like I was and could see that the front office didn't really care and jack doodoo was going to happen....then Quinny loses money. Quinn has the fanbase pegged as a bunch of Rubes...and quite frankly, he looks right. Guys like Ecklund keep your juices flowing, and keep you spending money into a subpar franchise.

In horseracing, there are a bunch of owners with boatloads of money that help keep the industry in business. If a newer owner or one who is handing over money but hasn't been seeing results from his stables......ends up having a horse that is going to run in a decent race...you can have an article written on the horse to profile it for the upcomming race......if....you know how to pull a few strings. The owner sees his horse in the headlines of the top racing media and gets all excited that he and the horse are getting attention. He feels good about things and forgets how crappy things have been for a while because obviously some people notice how viable his horse is.

In reality, the trainer has taken the writer out to lunch 5 times over the past few years and sends a $100 bottle of scotch over at Christmas. He calls the writer to "point out" that he has a horse in a nice race coming up. Wham-bam...24 hours later it is media magic. The horse might have little chance at all of actually winning...but if he comes in 7th the owner doesn't care as much because obviously he belonged. The paper said so!

It is quite interesting in life to find out who is on the payroll sometimes. Sometimes you just need to open your eyes a little wider.

A swing and a miss. Like Big Papi before the steroids.

Regier isn't responsible for what Eck writes. He is responsible for the reasons we pay attention to it. Regier is a boring GM with a boring team and fans are left in the middle of summer with nothing else to talk abut other than what moves other teams have made and rumors.

Then, this off-season, DR isn't really the reason why Eck rumors (or any rumor for that matter) generate interest as per deluca's logic. It's TG and LQ who are to blame. It's not like DR has changed over the years; we all know what to expect from him, and his owners do as well.

Is Regier the General Manager? Is he responsible for the roster? Does he facilitate trades and have a say in free agent signings? $50 mil is a ample enough budget to get this team into the playoffs. Are you saying it's not Regiers's fault? That he is unqualified for the position he holds so the blame falls elsewhere?

Who is to blame for DR?

Why beat around the bush and let's just take this to the logical conclusion: it's the heterotrophs' fault.
