Two or less Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Wow, talking about instantly killing your credibility. lol yeah....what a joke. A web site that has been gaining speed by being right a few times is saying Sabres are interested in Mike Comrie. Here's their twitter. http://twitter.com/NHLSourcesSay
shrader Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Wow, talking about instantly killing your credibility. And if you were somehow willing to look past that, his writing style still instantly kills his credibility.
X. Benedict Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 lol yeah....what a joke. A web site that has been gaining speed by being right a few times is saying Sabres are interested in Mike Comrie. Here's their twitter. http://twitter.com/NHLSourcesSay That doesn't sound too far fetched. The team could still use a center. He's not my favorite choice, but if he goes for under 3 I'm okay. He doesn't have the best rep. among players however.
deluca67 Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 In an attempt to save this thread I will ask. Which of the three players mentioned above would have the greatest impact on the Sabres? As much as I like Kessel I think Kaberle would have a more immediate impact. I don't like the idea of trading for Kaberle without a long term deal in place. For immediate impact Kaberle would make the Sabres better. Playoff better? I don't know. Comrie? Wasn't it reported at some point a couple of off-seasons ago the Sabres were interested in Comrie but he chose the Islanders instead?
red Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 just asking, but is Kaberle anything to get excited about? I only seem to remember him having some value on maybe a power play, or in joining the offensive rush...but is Kaberle any good in his own end?
carpandean Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 A web site that has been gaining speed by being right a few times is saying Sabres are interested in Mike Comrie. Here's their twitter. http://twitter.com/NHLSourcesSay From that twitter "about 1 hour ago": hearing a package which would include Cheechoo and possibly Ehrhoff for Heatley, but nothing has been confirmed. it is just a rumor. From Spector's Hockey yesterday: OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports there's speculation Dany Heatley sees himself as a team leader, perhaps captain, which he's not going to be with the Senators, although his camp denies it. The Senators meanwhile claim there's not much interest in Heatley, the Oilers have been reduced to "begging" Heatley to join them by sending him team videos and the San Jose Sharks are rumored to have offered up defenseman Christian Ehrhoff and winger Jonathan Cheechoo but the Senators aren't interested in that deal. From the original Ottawa Sun article from earlier on Sunday: Sources say San Jose, which is on the approved list, has offered up winger Jonathan Cheechoo and defenceman Christian Erhoff as part of a trade, but Ottawa doesn’t have any interest in that deal.

I only seem to remember him having some value on maybe a power play, or in joining the offensive rush...but is Kaberle any good in his own end? He's more of Brian Campbell type player, but making the kind of money that Brian should be (just over $4 million per rather than just over $7 million.) He's no stay-at-home defense and is at best marginally better than Brian in his own end. However, he definitely helps feed and contributes to the offense. He's been a consistent 50+ point defenseman in Toronto (last season was cut short by a hand injury) and can QB the powerplay, all of which we can use. As for a long-term deal with Kaberle, you would at least get the two seasons that he comes with, so at least it's not a single-year contract. Plus, we have a lot of prospects coming up, so we may not want to get locked into a 31 year old puck-mover for too long. Comrie was looking for a chance to be a #1 or #2 center right out of the gate, not depending on someone getting injured. We had Connolly and Roy, so he would have started at #3 in the depth chart. The Islanders gave him the shot that he was looking for. He's a feisty little player, who is more aggressive than most players his size. However, I do get the impression that he might be a little bitter about the way his career has gone (just my feeling, not something based on knowing the guy or being around him.) I also think that he is sort of Briere type player, though not quite as skilled. What I mean is that he is fairly one-dimensional, almost to the point of cheating toward the other team's zone. He does have the same sort of knack for finding those open spots, especially on the PP. He's the type of guy that you put out there in the final minute when you are down by one (he scored last minute goals in two straight games, one of which was against us, when down by two late), but definitely not when you're up by one, protecting the lead.
Two or less Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 I would love to have Kaberle on the Sabres, i just think the cost would be too much. Toronto has been asking a lot for Kaberle so unless his price drops, i doubt we'll see him here. I think Brian Burke wants to hit the jack pot on a Kaberle deal and no way Regier will fall for it. He plays very well in his own zone and as carp said, he's a consistent 50-point scorer.
thesportsbuff Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 If the Sabres added Kaberle I would feel a lot better about our team. Kessel would be acceptable at the right price, but I wouldn't even consider Comrie. I think Kaberle would have the biggest impact on our team and would solidify our defense. Rivet Lydman Montador Kaberle Sekera/Tallinder/Paetsch/Butler/Weber/Myers Pretty strong depth chart actually.

inkman Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Kessel would be acceptable at the right price... The Bruins just unloaded Ward to fit Kessel under the cap. I think you can officially let go of the pipe dream.

inkman Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 They unloaded Ward to sign Morris. Kessel I think is still very much up in the air. Point taken. They are in cap purgatory. Way too much money tied up in mediocre players. (sound familiar) They are going to be unloading players yearly, especially when Lucic needs to get paid. Regardless, Kessel coming to Buffalo is a pipe dream.

Kessel just had shoulder surgery and will probably miss time at the start of the year. That gives them a little extra time to figure out something with him. Then again, it probably hurts his stance in contract negotiations and also his trade value a bit.

deluca67 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Maybe Darcy will offer him Tall..... :wallbash: How did we get to the point where every time a player the quality of a Kessel that may be available is discussed it ends in a punchline when the possibility of that player coming to Buffalo is brought up? Some posters have the nerve to complain about the negative tone of my posts? Here is a player you can slot somewhere at the top of the talent depth chart around Vanek and Roy. It's shouldn't be that far fetched. It shouldn't be a joke. It's not like we are discussing OV, Malkin or Crosby. It is truly frustrating to think the Sabres are that far removed from being a real NHL franchise.
