[OT] How early is too early

I'm finishing up my coffee and looking at the hour by hour weather forecast. It looks like the rain is going to start around noon. Just to be safe I want to get started soon. Is 8:30 am on a weekday, too early to mow?

No I think earlier than 8 would be questionable but after 8 am is acceptable.

No not in my book, I do agree with Wonderman that 8am is probably the cutoff however you know people and some just are Jag offs no matter what you do.... Like my neighbor who rents one of those little track bulldozers and starts digging a pool at 7am on a saturday morning :wallbash:

Not at all. If it's a weekend, I'd wait until at least 9:30, maybe 10:00.

Most people still work, so it's a good bet that they're up by 7:00am, anyway.

I would say it depends on the type of neighborhood you live in. Old folks? Lots of tiny children? Working people? Houses close together, or farther apart? In any case, if there is rain coming, and it is after 8...I'd say go for it. Everyone does something either a little late, or a little early at times...including the neighbors. They'll get over it.

For the love of God, get a push mower. No noise. No gas. Better exercise. Better for the lawn. They last forever.

You've seen the calves. Do you seriously want them to become even bigger?

Just finished up. Both houses on either side of me are vacant. The lot across the street is open so no real neighbors to worry about, and most of the people in my hood are old.

So they've probably been up since 5 anyway. Although you probably shouldn't mow after 4 pm. That would interrupt their dinner time.

Pa lives in your neighborhood?

At what point do you start thinking that the problem may be you? :nana:

I usually use the 9-to-9 rule (make loud noise only between 9am and 9pm) on weekdays and 10-to-10 rule on weekends. Of course, I'm not a morning person and my career allows me the flexibility to choose my sleep time, so I'm usually a 1am-9am sleeper. That said, while I hate getting woken up at 8am by construction equipment or lawn mowers, I don't think anyone can really get mad after 8 am on a weekday.

Pretty much the rule I follow to. Whether it's outdoor noise or indoor noise.

My personal favorite early wake up is when the garbage men come and empty out the dumpsters. They then slam them against the ground several times. I get to hear this being done at 3 or 4 consecutive buildings.

Maybe you should consider sleeping the night in a shelter, rather than next to the dumpsters.

+1

Gauge your neighbors, though. I usually wait until 9, but if I hear someone else's mower before than, it's go time...

In Florida, if you can't start before 10am, forget about it. Too hot after that, you very well could die!
