Packer76 Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Has Max landed anywhere? My take is the Russian League this year..........
LabattBlue Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 As far as I know Max is still a FA and as an aside, FA signings seem to have come to a screeching halt.
inkman Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Has Max landed anywhere? You mean has hit the bottom of the free fall that was his NHL career? Nope, not yet, although I'm enjoying the ride.
X. Benedict Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 You mean has hit the bottom of the free fall that was his NHL career? Nope, not yet, although I'm enjoying the ride. If you look at the film......you'd say.....wow...look at that speed....... If you look at the games .....you'd say....wow....whatthehellishedoingoutthere....... He'll be lucky to find a job.
CallawaySabres Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 You mean has hit the bottom of the free fall that was his NHL career? Nope, not yet, although I'm enjoying the ride. He may have looked clueless out there at times but at least he gave the effort unlike a few of the floaters on this team. Say what you will but I had more fun watching him skate than someone like Hecht who looked like he was going at 50%.
inkman Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I still say he lands with Washington. Ovechkin might be goofy but he's not an idiot. If somehow Max does end up there, he won't finish the season.
inkman Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Say what you will but I had more fun watching him skate I like watching women in skimpy out fits skate, I want to see hockey players score, hit and fight.

CallawaySabres Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I like watching women in skimpy out fits skate, I want to see hockey players score, hit and fight. Just sayin' - no reason to wish ill will on a guy who at least gave 100% effort when he was out there.

Just because he skates hard does not mean he is any more effective than others.

nucci Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 You are so nice...there is no place for that type of behavior around here. Send him over to TSW. Some are already bashing the rookies before camp even starts.

Just because he skates hard does not mean he is any more effective than others. Bottom line - I don't want Max on the team any more than you do but I have always enjoyed the kid and it is too bad the old NHL crushed his game again.

Play-by-Play for Max.... Max, skates down the right -hand side like a bat outta hell, jukes and dekes the opposing team's forwards, crosses the blue line, makes a move cuts right........coughs up the puck. Now repeat that for 82 games at the rate of 5 per............Can anyone say "Hello KHL"

I agree with you. I love having Max on a team because he is a hard worker but it wasn't the NHL that crushed his game, it was Lindy Ruff. Even Ovechkin would have a hard time producing points if he had to play on a line with guys that don't what to do with/without the puck(Goose and Mair.) Those guys are great at what they do but Max needs to be with somebody that can keep up.

I enjoyed watching Max when he was on his game..He was one of the biggest teases the Sabres ever had on their team..I wish him well in whatever he does..Just not against the Sabes...He wont ever find the scoring touch no matter who he plays with..That said he gave his all every shift as mindless as he played at least he played...Good luck Max...

The reason he was on a line with muckers was because he was completely ineffective and useless on scoring lines.

Remember when Max got a concussion a couple years ago when he was playing soccer on concrete with a couple other Sabres? I remember Ruff saying something like "He hasn't been the same since he hit his head" in an interview a couple months after Max came back from that injury. I can't remember exactly WHEN though. Does anyone else remember this?

Does anyone else remember this? I do recall that story coming out (here's a story that makes a passing reference to it) but he also missed quite a bit of time with a concussion after "getting hit in the head with a puck during an offseason pickup game" in 2002, missing most of camp and 46 games in the regular season. Maybe these whacks to the skull have knocked something permanently out of place.

Kristian Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I agree with you. The reason Max played with those guys is because he was even more clueless with the puck than his linemates. I saw him play for Team Russia at several world cups, and time and time again you'd see Max do one of his patented end to end rushes only to lose the puck, and once the whistle blew you'd see guys like OV and Kovalchuck standing on the bench with the exact same WTF look on their faces we've come to know so well from our own bench. I don't think we can argue the quality of his linemates when playing for his country, and yet he still sucks. Max is clueless - He plays his own game 95% of the time, he has no on-ice awareness whatsoever, doesn't know where the opposition or his teammates are, he has no shot and very limited passing skills. His only upside is speed, and above average stickhandling. His downsides? Just about everything else in the game of hockey. I'm probably one of the biggest Ruff questioners on this board, but Ruff had nothing to do with ruining Max's career - This is a guy who's made an entire pro career from one single upside : Being fast. I don't think that qualifies as "ruining" anything, but rather getting more than the most out of next to nothing.
Two or less Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Looks like Afinogenov is going to the KHL.... Dynamo Moscow are waiting for Max Afinogenov, formerly of the Buffalo Sabres, to accept their offer. Afinogenov will start getting ready for the season with Dynamo on July 23, but wants to explore his options in the NHL before accepting the agreement with the KHL club.
