18 sets of back-to-back games (44% of games), 12 of which are Fri/Sat

Of those, 10 are Home/Away or Away/Home, and 4 are Away/Away in different cities.

Yeah I saw that too. I also believe I heard we have that many back to backs because our FO requests the weekends for their fans. IMO with our teams records the last several years in back to backs and the fact we have missed the playoffs last two years by just a few wins, proves they are more interested in the money than winning.. Why wouldn't you help your team win by not avoiding that scheduling nightmare... <_<

harrington in his blog links to an interesting site and notes an interesting fact about our schedule.

According to the chart on this fascinating analysis of the schedule, the Sabres will travel the fewest miles of any NHL team this year. A lot fewer. At 25,911 miles, the Sabres' travel load is less than half that of the Flames (who will log the most miles at more than 55,000). Only the Flyers (29,087) are even under 30,000.

The flip side of fewer miles is that it COULD mean longer trips in terms of time away from home. For instance, in March the Sabres go to Detroit and then to Atlanta-Tampa-Florida-Carolina all on the same trip ... that is fewer miles than if they flew to Detroit and back, played a home game, flew to Florida for 2 games, flew home for a week or two and then went to Carolina and Atlanta ... FAR fewer miles ... but is a 5-game road trip with 12 days between home games really easier than two shorter trips? I don't know but you can't measure difficulty in miles alone.

that's a good point.

i keep reflecting on my take from yesterday: 11 of the last 16, as well as 5 of the last 6, on the road. if we're chasing a pot at the 65-game mark, we are hosed.

Thursday, December 3rd.

Bills vs. Jets in Toronto.

Canadiens at Sabres.

2 games against Montreal that play at the same time the Bills are playing (12.3 & 1.3).

Don't forget the 1.3 date I mentioned also.

Also it probably means less "bonding time" for the team. I'm always looking for the excuses the team will use.

Sounds like carp.

Hey!

You're right.

Though, my dissertation committee might argue with how much of that time is actually free. :death:

Pre-season schedule is out, sabres.com

"The Buffalo Sabres today announced their 2009 preseason schedule. The team will play six games including two at HSBC Arena. Both home games will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Sabres will begin their preseason slate at home on September 17 when Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals visit HSBC Arena.

The team will hit the road to play in Detroit (September 19) and Washington (September 21) before returning home to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on September 23. The team will conclude their preseason schedule with back-to-back games in Canada when the Sabres visit Montreal (September 26) and Toronto (Sept. 27).

Ticket information for both games at HSBC Arena will be released in the near future.

The Sabres will begin the 2009-2010 regular season at home on Saturday, October 3 when they faceoff against the Montreal Canadiens at 7:00 p.m. "

I'll assume the "free" preseason game would be the Caps. They'll make us pay for Toronto and sell more seats to Loafs fans.

These are some good teams to play in preseason. We should get to see some of the "younger" guys play. Hopefully they play Myers for at least one game.

Toronto's "ruff and tumble" team should give a good idea of this teams toughness.
