bob_sauve28 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I just want to point out bob_sauve is having a great offseason. Something has stirred deep within this gentle giant -- besides the fact he or she had the burritos for lunch. LOL, thanks PA, and yes, I did have burritos!
bob_sauve28 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Moore was 54.15%, best on the Sabres. 8th in the league with as many draws. 60.5% on power play draws. Hmmmm. Contract year? Or is he consistant?
Lanny Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I guess I wouldn't mind him. The lines would look like this? Vanek-Roy-Stafford Hecht-Connolly-Pominville Paille-Moore-Gaustad Mair-Ellis-Kaleta Who am I forgettting? [/quote MacArthur
Mbossy Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Contract year? Or is he consistant? His best year last year for points. His past three years FO% were 46.5%, 52.6%, 51.4%, then last year at 54.1%.
nobody Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 The teams must want these players but don't want to shell out too much caggage. There must be some serious small ball tactics going on underneith all this. Someone will end up with these good players at a decent price Sadly, we all can guess that it won't be the Sabres that gets these value guys. Most of them will eventually take less money to play for a contender.

I just don't believe that we have the horses to make a deep run...

Stoner Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Thanks, chz. But in my OP, I was referrring to Kennedy and his ability on draws. Any idea how he fared in the AHL in that stat last season? GO SABRES!!! Neither theahl.com nor the Pirates site seems to have faceoff stats. theahl.com does keep track of insurance goals though.
SDS Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Neither theahl.com nor the Pirates site seems to have faceoff stats. theahl.com does keep track of insurance goals though. like saving 15% with GEICO?
wonderbread Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Don't you think the FA players think that too? Well if that FA feels that he could be the missing piece then yeah why not. It's not like pro athletes don't have overinflated egos already. Also I don't buy in to the small market woe is me philosophy that plagues some of our fellow posters. JMO.
bflobarry Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I guess I wouldn't mind him. The lines would look like this? Vanek-Roy-Stafford Hecht-Connolly-Pominville Paille-Moore-Gaustad Mair-Ellis-Kaleta Who am I forgettting? Switch Roy and Connolly, and get Hecht out of town. Derek Roy is NOT a #1 center, period. He's a good #2. And Connolly IS a #1 center, the only one we've got, so he goes b/t Vanek and Stafford. You would not waste Connolly's playmaking ability by putting a stiff like Hecht on his wing. Hecht had the worst year I've seen out of a Sabre in a longggggg time last year. He was awful, and at $3 mil, he has to go. Give me Gerbe there...

(If someone has a link to that?)

I'm glad you schooled me there barry. Connolly hasn't proven he's anything in the NHL other than injury prone. I seem to remember a very effective line featuring Hecht and Pominville centered by the Sabres then # 1 center, Briere. Gerbe has proved much less in the NHL than Jochen has and right now garners no more respect. Jochen isn't going anywhere, so you, Darcy and Lindy better figure out a place for him.
carpandean Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Jochen isn't going anywhere, so you, Darcy and Lindy better figure out a place for him. Third-line LW. I'd like to see one of the following for our third line: Hecht-Gaustad-Kaleta Hecht-Moore-Gaustad Hecht-Kennedy-Gaustad The second would require re-signing Moore (I'd throw guys like Malhotra into the mix, too), while the third would be based on the coaches' (i.e., not anyone here's) evaluation of where Timmy is, especially defensively.

Are you suggesting PAFan and the rest of us aren't as qualified as the coaches are to decide who plays with whom and for how many minutes? You're #1 on the death list now, buddy.

North Buffalo Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I can't stand the thought of Kennedy as a defensive line center or Goose on the wing. Goose on the wing makes more sense, put Connolly on the wing and move Moore up. Balance the lines a little bit more and put Hecht or Kennedy at center with Goose. Keep a third defensive line and use these guys as a third line scoring threat. Really who knows but I like Hecht on wing better than center. The question will become how well can Kennedy play at the next level. If he is consistent who knows. How has Malhotra been doing?
nobody Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 while the third would be based on the coaches' (i.e., not anyone here's) evaluation of where Timmy is, especially defensively. Please don't start calling Kennedy "Timmy". Isn't one enough?
carpandean Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 How has Malhotra been doing? Still unsigned and looking for $1.5-$2 million per (reportedly.) He's very strong on faceoffs (over 58% for the last two years, including 1300+ draws last season), sound defensively, great on the PK and has consistently put up better numbers than Moore had before this past year (i.e., whe Dominic was also mostly playing on the third line.) He's bigger than Dominic, seems to be a hard worker and, while he doesn't drop the gloves much, he has dropped them on occasion in defense of a teammate. Sportsnet also lists "leadership qualities" among his assets, for whatever that's worth. He did get some top-six time this year due to injuries in Columbus, too, though not nearly as much as Dominic did in Toronto. While he'll probably never meet pre-draft expectations (was take 7th overall in 1998), he would make a nice addition to anchor a checking line. Then, there was this: <param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344">

Well...Isn't Timmy C. referred to as 'The Skill' or 'Mister "The Skill"' round these parts? And for the home-town boy how about: The Senator The President The Prez Home-Town-Timmy TK Miiiisterrrrrrrrrr.....Kennedy! Timmy the Kid The Commander-in-Chief

I'd like to see the players polled on the reason for the ranking. Weather? (Better than Winnepeg, worse than Tampa). Community? Or maybe....front office's dedication to winning and treating players well? Ding ding! I think we have a winner.........

They know absolutely nothing about the area and go on the cities reputation.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 No, it's based out of assumptions. They know absolutely nothing about the area and go on the cities reputation. Actually, it's probably worse than that ... knowing nothing they might have an open mind ... they know a little something ... they probably stay at the Adam's Mark or the Hyatt and walk or cab to the arena and back for the morning skate ... if you went someplace twice a year and 1/3 or more of the buildings you saw were boarded up, you probably wouldn't be too excited about the place either. It's a small snapshot and does give an unfair impression but it's all they get.

If that doesn't cause an out-of-towner to call his agent while still on the bus, I don't know what will.
