inkman Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 I'm not hoping for it but I'm thinking the re-sign Peters. He's great in the lockerroom.
spndnchz Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Rivet will beat peoples ars. Montador will get his ars beat, although he'll at least drop 'em. Mair will stick out his tongue and beat someone's ars in the locker room.
Sabre Dance Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Miller better learn how to fight, 'cause no one stood up for him last year when really needed.
LabattBlue Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Between Rivet, Gaustad, Mair, Kaleta, Montador & Weber(if he makes the team), they will be fine. In fact they should be better in that regard than last year.
SabresFan526 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Rivet rarely if ever loses a fight. I'm going with Montador as the Sabres punching bag. He will fight, and he will most likely lose most of them, but he'll dance, that's for sure. Mair is not too bad and neither is Goose. I think the Sabres will be fine in the toughness department so long as everyone's healthy. No need for Peters in my mind.
ntsabresfan Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Being a punching bag is nothing new for Montador
ROC Sabres Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Rivet and "the bull" are probably the most likely candidates. I would like to see Kaleta take up the "so called" role of Peters and start dancing with some of the big boys.
carpandean Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I would like to see Kaleta take up the "so called" role of Peters and start dancing with some of the big boys. Why? Kaleta is small. He plays big, but he's barely a medium weight. He should not be fighting "big boys" that Peters fought, because he's not even close to their weight class. Gaustad is the closest, size-wise, to being a heavy-weight and Rivet is probably the closest skill-wise. Any of Gaustad, Rivet and Mair would have a better chance against a true heavy weight than Kaleta, but even they should avoid those true enforcer types. Kaleta is an agitator, not an enforcer, and shouldn't/couldn't touch Peters' old role. The question is whether a team needs a real enforcer any more? If yes, then that person is not currently on the roster and it's certainly not Kaleta.
... Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 The question is whether a team needs a real enforcer any more? Good question. Last season I thought most if not all of the enforcer-type fights I saw were a waste of time. Which is different than saying ANY fight is a waste of time, I couldn't agree with that. Watching the playoffs this season, there were no staged enforcer fights that I recall. To me, that says the game doesn't need it, and therefore the enforcer role is a waste of roster space. Unless, of course, the enforcer is a good player and worth having on the roster simply because of his game.

Stoner Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Lindy was asked if there's still a place for the enforcer in the game. And he said yes -- until the games really start to matter in the playoff race and in the playoffs themselves. At least he gave one honest answer yesterday.
X. Benedict Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Being a punching bag is nothing new for Montador As long as he isn't the speed bag.
red Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 If there is still a place for an enforcer in the NHL, then the Sabres have not had one since Ray and May left. Peters is a joke and at his salary should have been gone long ago.
blugold43 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 the "sabres punching bag" should be sitting in golisano's office and have a season ticket holder's face on it.
inkman Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 the "sabres punching bag" should be sitting in golisano's office and have a season ticket holder's face on it. The second time I laughed out loud tonight. Yous Guys is funny.

No Rays, no Hartmans, no Tuckers.
