Morrison To Sabres Almost Done I'm not familiar with that bleacher report site that has the Morrison fiction--er, I mean rumor. Is the writer there as creative as Eklund all the time, or just this once?
R_Dudley Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Well since were looking at rumors here, ...... When looking at the New Jersey Devils lackluster roster, it is certain that they are looking to bolster a very mediocre forward corps that saw the team lose John Madden, Bobby Holik, and Mike Rupp. The answer to the Devils woes comes in the form of two ex-Buffalo Sabres forwards Maxim Afinogenov and Ales Kotalik. Devils after Max and Klick
inkman Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 The answer to the Devils woes comes in the form of two ex-Buffalo Sabres forwards Maxim Afinogenov and Ales Kotalik. If that happens, I will lose all respect for the devils.

R_Dudley Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 A little OT from this thread but I noticed this story on the Bleacher report. It is a great read about the Sabres best player of all time, mixes in a little history for you young pups and nostalgia. It gives some backdrop to the politics of the day back then when I was growing up and watching hockey and I actually saw these players play Bflo in the old Aud... anywho it's long winded like me (10 pages) so if you have the time it's a great read. The Forgotten Frenchman
darksabre Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 bleacher report also has Satan coming back to Buffalo. Yeah...okay.

wjag Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 If that happens, I will lose all respect for the devils. You have some respect for the Devils?
inkman Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 You have some respect for the Devils? I admire the way they operate. They have a plan and stick to it. I'm not sure I feel the same about the Sabres.
shrader Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 I admire the way they operate. They have a plan and stick to it. I'm not sure I feel the same about the Sabres. But Lamoriello is really freaky looking. He could probably be a real life Mr. Burns in another 40 years.

wjag Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Devils are a good team but I find watching their games very boring. They play anti-hockey..

The Forgotten Frenchman Bert was one of the most exciting players ever to lace 'em up. The article is correct in that he never did get the full respect he deserved and certainly not the respect that Dionne and Lafleur got. If the Sabres had won the Cup in '75, you might hear Perreault's name in the same breath as the other greats of the game. I remember when the All-Star Game was played at the Aud - the game was tied at the end of regulation. In overtime, Gilbert scored the winning goal. However, when the MVP award was announced, it went to someone else (who I've conveniently blocked out of my memory). The crowd at the Aud booed vociferously at this pronouncement, and Phil Esposito (who I believe was handing out the MVP trophy) said over the PA "Why are you booing?". Even when scoring the game-winning goal in overtime in his home building, Bert didn't get the respect from the NHL...
Swedesessed Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Devils are a good team but I find watching their games very boring. I bet you have not watched that much of them recently IMO. People still think the Devils are the same team from the 90's, they can score now...personally I love watching Zach Parise play...one of the most exciting young superstars in the NHL

The Forgotten Frenchman I will never forget Gilbert on the same line with Lafleur and Gretzky until Gilbert got hurt. That was an amazing sight. Perhaps the best line to ever play together -- it is too bad that Gilbert got hurt and it lasted for such a short amount of time.

SteamRoller72 Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Ecklund states the Sabres are still in on the Kaberle trade and in the running for Derrick Morris. Is it coincidence that Drew Stafford hasn't signed a long-term deal? http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/The-...-Morris/1/22181

inkman Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Is it coincidence that Drew Stafford hasn't signed a long-term deal? Ninety percent of RFA'a are still unsigned.
spndnchz Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 FWIW, 160 RFA's 57 signed or went to Europe 103 left, that's 64% 588 UFA's 151 signed, Europe or retired 437 left, or 74% unsigned All total 748 Free agents 208 signed, Europe'd, or retired 18 came back from Europe to sign in the NHL 15 left for Europe 72% still unsigned. There's enough free agents out there to make almost make another 30 teams.
inkman Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 160 RFA's57 signed or went to Europe 103 left, that's 57% I just rounded up.
