I aspire to someday make it here.

No offense...but...I think you might be setting the bar a little low for yourself.

God Bless America.

Do what makes you feel good.

Me, I have an addiction to that coffee truck food.

Bear claws.

Cheese danishes.

Tacos.

and the breakfast sandwiches....yum, yum.

Shouldn't eat any of that stuff.

It may be healthier than that 'filet-o-fish' though.

Let us know when you make the the coffee-truck-hottie site...and I'll have a double-double and a donut.

He's not yet under contract correct? Could this camp be his final tryout? He hasn't shown much to this point, without a stellar camp, he's done.

No contract and he becomes a free agent in August. I can't see anything coming of this. Far better players are currently trying to fight their way out of the ECHL. But then again, I'll never understand how certain players I've watched over the past couple years are now playing at a higher level than other teammates who were much better players.

Hey guys! Went to camp today and had a great time. While it is very tough to get a true idea of just how good these kids are without any true hockey being played, there are certain things you can get a feel for during these sessions.

I went to this camp last year as well so I have a good idea of where many of these players were a year ago and can definitely see where certain players have improved. Like I said, it is difficult to tell just from these practices how good some of these guys will be, and many of them looked to blend together with similar skill sets. HOWEVER, these were a few players that STOOD OUT that you can just tell will be good to great players in the NHL.

Right off the top, the most impressive player at camp today was Myers. The guy has it all and I will be shocked if he doesn't make this team this season. He is definitely better than most of the D-Men that played for us last season. Let me just say that he has the size and skating ability that we have not had on the back-end in YEARS! The guys is an effortless skater and has a huge shot. Perhaps the most impressive thing in watching him, though, is the way he uses his stick. The guy has one of the best poke checks I have ever seen. Just about every drill they ran today (whether 1 on 1 or 2 on 2, etc.), he played in perfect position and just poked the puck off of the forwards stick and turned the play back up the ice. It was definitely something to see. Between the length of his stick and his wingspan, he just didn't allow the forwards any room. It was really something.

The next player to stand out was Kennedy. The guy just did everything well. He is a smooth skater, has fast hands, and great body control. He definitely is the most NHL-ready forward at camp right now. Looks good.

Ennis was also impressive. He may have been the best skating forward on the ice. while he may not be ready yet, I look for big things from him in the future.

Overall, those 3 players were the most impressive today. Gerbe also showed flashes of speed and great stick-work scoring a couple of pretty goals. However, today I didn't think was one of his best days. I have been watching him play for a long time and I have seen him better than he was today. However, the kid has talent and hopefully his next NHL opportunity will go better. The way he plays makes him a little frustrating to play against and I think that will help him.

Anyways, those were my observations from today. I will be heading back on friday for the close of camp. Last year they had a full squad scrimmage that was great to watch. Hoping for the same this year! definitely a good time!

Did they have the same really crappy name plates on their jerseys that they did last year?

With an owner who has been nicknamed "Ole Sugar Packets", do you really expect anything more?

...and yes I agree, they do look crappy.

What if none of it's true? I'm juss sayin'...

Man, I feel like a total a-hole today.

Man, I feel like a total a-hole today.

Well then everyone should get waived. ....

At camps people look good/bad/fast/slow etc. relative to other people at the same camp, and experiences are subjective.

It's just nice to hear some observations.

If he's wrong then he's wrong.

If the Sabres stink then they stink.

It is what it is.

We are where we are.

Or, if you prefer: It's a great day to be alive. Get ready for Tyler Myers, a/k/a the natural.

Quick question, how did Butler look? They said he was attending, but how did he look and how serious would he really take this thing?

Well, yesterday he looked fine. Very steady. He plays a very simple game. Didn't catch him out of position or doing the wrong things if that is what you are asking. He was good.

Exactly. Look, I was there and could only compare him against guys that were there. Outside of Kennedy, Gerbe, Butler, and Weber, there is nobody with NHL experience yet.

What i was trying to say is that he looked BETTER than everyone else that was there. Is he better than Rivet, Lydman, Tallinder, Sekera, etc.? Hard to say exactly because of the lever of opposition he was going against, but I can tell you he won just about, if not every, battle he had against the guys that were there. Kind of like a "man among boys" situation. We'll find out exactly how good he is when he works out with everyday NHL players on a regular basis. But, for now, this is all we have to go by and he was the best D-Man on the ice.

We'll just have to wait to see what happens when the competition improves. But, for now, he is beating the forwards at camp badly. Hope that helps!

It might be off base, but I'm picking up a little surprise in your post for Butler being at this camp. If I'm mistaken, ignore this. He's there because any one on an entry level deal with the organization is there. Stafford, Sekera, and Kaleta were there last year.

John Vogel from Buffalo News says: LEWISTON ? It doesn't take a math wizard to figure out the Buffalo Sabres have openings on their roster. Dominic Moore and Maxim Afinogenov have departed, and fellow forwards Matt Ellis and Andrew Peters have yet to be re-signed. Subtract four from the season-finale squad, and the Sabres have four spots to fill.

Where did Moore sign? I didn't even know he left! What about Max, I have not heard a thing. Does anyone know about these guys?

Lastly, please don't waste a roster spot on Peters! He's not helping this team one bit!!

well, they are no longer employees of the Sabres, so yes - they have departed.

So they are in limbo right now ala Marty Biron?? I thought Moore was going to stay? I'm sure Max will get a offer from some team. Thanks SDS.

Went today and watched.

Today they scrimmaged, which provided a quick glimpse of what some of these players actually bring in game time.

Myers and Weber were a defensive pairing, and both played like, you guessed it, "men among boys". Calm, cool and collective, they looked NHL ready. Butler also played very well, and looks to be an obvious lock for a roster spot next season. The most impressive defenseman IMO was actually Weber. He looks hungry and motivated for a roster spot this season.

The only forwards that impressed me were Gerbe and Kennedy. Both played well, and both seemed very willing and capable of playing sound two way hockey.

I didn't catch Ennis on the ice at all, so Im unable to comment on him.

Foligno participated in the scrimmage, and laid on a few hits. As was reported, his feet seemed a bit slow.

Nice post, thanks for the info.

P.S. We lost last night in a shootout after 5 guys went.... Frustrating because we missed two open nets.
