Sportsnet.ca's Daren Millard reports Sabres sign D Steve Montador.... 2yr, $3.1 mil deal.

Wow. Didn't see that one coming.

He fights.....but really shouldn't. He catches tons of punches every year.

Can we waive Paetch now?

Should I be happy with this or not?

The guy plays with an edge. Very good in his own end. Doesn't take much crap from anyone. I like this signing. He's not a star but a hard hitter this team needs.

It would be nice if this showed up anywhere on the internet.

Vogl's reporting it on the Sabresedge blog. http://buffalonews.typepad.com/

I did not see this one coming at all. He'll play on the PK and will stay at home. I would have preferred McKee, but this fills a need for the Sabres that is rather cheap. Now we need Erik Cole, one more center, and trade Tallinder and I think the offseason will be successful.

I can't find a linky stinky anywhere.

And no offense to Vanek-Man who is here all the time, but if he's also starting a thread saying the team is close to re-signing Max, I'm going to wait until someone like TSN mentions this.

It just showed up on the TSN free agent blog, so I'd say it's official.

Its official. Pack it up gentlemen. Thats our big signing. Let the I love Darcy parade begin.

I don't have any sources.... i look around. Max deal was from a sketchy site but still figured i'd post it for people to see and think about.

But Montador deal i got from Millard.... a real good hockey journalist. I posted the source in the post. lol

So the top six now, in no particular order:

Rivet, Montador, Tallinder, Lydman, Sekera, Butler? Hopefully, either Weber or Myers makes the group and we trade Tallinder away? Is that good enough?

Actually this is a nice signing. The term isn't going to stand in the way of development either.

He protects the crease. 3rd pairing or 7th man.......60-65 games.

He's a righty. so that never hurts.

We still have the same problem, who are the top two shut down d-men?
