That's a nice raise for him.

Okay.....I want Morris. Haven't seen anybody mention him.

eck did just this morning. He just finished a 3.5 million season. Is he still worth that?

It looks like Kovy to Ottawa... only radio report now though but i think it's as good as a done deal.

Kovy deal is official. Fan590 and sportsnet reporting. Daren Millard of Sportsnet says it's a 2 year deal.

Really? That is probably the kiss of death...anyway...just dreaming....

He can be a bad-ass at times....and that could give each pairing a right handed shot and grit.

- Rivet

- Morris

- Montador

Ek has linked Morris to Buffalo since last summer after the Sabres lost Campbell and then subsequently Kalinin. So, we know it will never happen. However...

I could not agree more. Morris would be a very good fit in Buffalo and really fills the need. He's younger than Spacek, tougher and plays with more of an edge and will drop the gloves, and is a very good offensive defenseman who can play the point on the powerplay. He has really improved his defensive zone game and was often paired with either Nick Boynton or Ed Jovanovski as the shutdown pairing in Phoenix before Boynton was traded to Florida. And, he brings the all important right-handed shot. I would love Derek Morris to sign with the Sabres and if he can take a slight pay cut in the $2.8 million range, I don't see why he can't play with the Sabres next year.

As long as DR is in charge and we have Tallendar there is no f'n way that I think this happens. :wallbash:

Btw XB thanks for the points.

Morris would make sense. I'm surprised to see he is still out there.

I'm assuming that means he wants something similar to Komiserik in terms of $.

I would put him on a par with Rivet in terms of ability......

So now we have Ottawa over the cap? There's even more leverage for Heatley.

I believe teams are allowed to go over the cap by 10% during the off-season.... which is where Ottawa is at right now. But i do think Heatley will be dealt soon if not they will have to waive Kelly or something or make a smaller deal.

If Spacek is getting a raise at the age of 35, I don't see how the Sabres are going to convince Morris to take a pay cut at the age of 30.

PS I wouldn't call a 25% pay cut "slight". ;)

WOW looking at their salaries on Nhlnumbers.com that 1st line is over 25 million a year! How come no one has made a play for Comrie? He seems like a cheaper Cammilleri.

Kovy gets $5 million per season from Ottawa.... jeez.

He has had a few really good seasons mixed in with many more mediocre seasons that are not worthy of a 5 mil contract. At the age of 36, which Kovalev do you think the Senators are getting?

Comrie doesn't have the best reputation for being a good teammate.

Probably the kind of guy you can put up with for 6 weeks during a playoff run though.

Spezza and Heatly dealing to Kovalev......probably 15 pp goals. and 20 more.

A fun fact for everyone: the top five unsigned UFA RWs in order of 2008-09 salary ...

1) Max Afinogenov ($3.5 million)

2) Miroslav Satan ($3.5 million)

3) Ales Kotalik ($2.5 million)

4) Petr Sykora ($2.5 million)

5) Mike Grier ($1.775 million)

No real point; just for fun.
