Alaska Darin Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Does that take into account any other players who might have been in or out of the lineup? There's few reasons to bring reality into a thread involving Deluca.
Alaska Darin Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 That's sexy?!?!? More like nauseating. Worse than that is the Gaborik signing on paper. What a joke. I'm curious to see if Gionta has anything left in the tank or if he's the next Briere. NEVER sign little guys past 30...
spndnchz Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 Skrastins from Florida to Dallas. One of the vet D guys I was reading about. Got 2.4 mill last season, UFA, and Dallas picks him up for 1.375 a year, 2 years. Other guys, Backman - Mara - Boynton. Mara be nice on the PP.

gg1 Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 NEVER sign little guys past 30... I take it you didn't participate in the Flutie thread?
Assquatch Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Any guess when Darcy comes out and declares, "we have our big free agent signing. He will be wearing #19 this season." They could always trot out JP Losman. :death:
Mbossy Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Grabovski re-signed by Toronto to 2.9 million per. This kid looks a lot like Stafford, just 30lbs lighter.. He went from $850,000 to 2.9mill. Was an RFA with Montreal before Toronto gave him a sheet last year. Darcy better watch it.
wonderbread Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Pittsburgh Post gazette reports Scuderi to LA for a significant rasie over the 800k or so he made last year. I have some joker here next to me saying that he is an elite shut down D-man. The guy had one good playoff season and he is the next coming of Lindstrom. edit: is it believed to be a four-year deal with an annual salary-cap hit of $3.4 million. http://www.pittsburghpostgazette.com/pg/09...0K8J5SLwk&D unfreaking real. This guy is a pylon.

VansTheMans Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 On Defense: If the Sabres want to lock up their defense, Jay McKee, Derek Morris, Francois Beauchemin, Jordan Leopold and Marc Andre Bergeron are still available. You can never have enough quality defensemen on a team, and the Sabres could definitely use one more veteran defenseman on the blueline. With the departure of Jaro Spacek, the Sabres no longer have a veteran dman capable of acting as a power play quarter back. If the Sabres aren't comfortable with Andrej Sekera suddenly ascending to the position of a power play quarter back, the Sabres should look into Bergeron or Leopold. Both move the puck well, have excellent skating abilities and don't hesitate to jump up on a rush. Neither are particularly strong on defense though...their role on the team would strictly be offensive in nature. To address the most glaring need of our defense (lack of grit and leadership), the Sabres should look into McKee or Beauchemin. Both are gritty stay at home defensemen, would provide veteran leadership in the back end and could be signed for relatively cheap. Derek Morris would also address Buffalo need's, but could cost a bit more than McKee and Beauchemin, making chances of him signing with Buffalo slim to none. On Offense While I don't think there's many possibilities to sign a forward for the Sabres left in free agency, there are still a slew of names left that catch my eye: Grier, Moore, Sykora, Comrie, Lang, and Ellis. If Moore and Ellis don't find any takers, I would love to resign both for a low price (1.5 would be perfectly acceptable for Moore, 500K for Ellis). Moore would be a good signing to address our immediate need at center. Ellis performed well in his games with Buffalo last season, providing a great deal of energy every time he was inserted into the line up. For 500K, you can't really go wrong. While the other above mentioned names catch my eye, I don't think any of those forwards (minus Ellis + Moore) would have any sort of impact on the team. Lang could possibly provide some sort of veteran leadership, but he may be TOO old now. Comrie and Sykora would add another scoring winger to our team, but I don't think that is currently our problem. The Sabres current problem is a lack of character and leadership in the offensive ranks; Comrie and Sykora are the not the answer to that. Grier would be a great pick up due to his defensive abilities, but I doubt he'd be willing to return to Buffalo. Free agency doesn't really hold much left for the Sabres (other than huge opportunities to address defensive in McKee and Beauchemin...and to a lesser extent Leopold), I'd hope Darcy is actively pursuing the trade market. If Tallinder winds up back in Buffalo for the 09-10 campaign, it will be a complete waste on Darcy's part. Hank has become a liability in the defensive end and he desperately needs a change of scenery. He is still worth SOMETHING in the trade market, and Darcy should ensure we get something of value in return for Hank.

This guy is a pylon. That is the stupidest move yet. Finally a deal that makes you feel good about Tallinder's price tag......hell this could make Dmitry Kalinin feel underpaid. I hold both in higher regard than Scuderi. Let's see, Scuderi.....no shot married to poor speed and size and average skating......but he did have 15 assists.....hell I could have 15 secondary assists dealing to those forwards. This is a clunker.

Lang could possibly provide some sort of veteran leadership, but he may be TOO old now. Assuming everything worked out with the surgery to repair his Achilles tendon, I would have no problem signing Lang to a one or two year deal, as long as he doesn't want anywhere near $4 million per again. There's some risk after his injury, but he certainly seemed like he still had something left in the tank before it. In addition to 20 (+/-) goals and 50+ points, he provides a veteran presence and real depth at center (or maybe Roy moves to his wing.) If we're going with someone like Moore, there are other options to consider as well. Guys like Todd Marchant and Manny Malhotra are UFAs. Both have played in the top six (Manny due to injuries last year), both are strong on faceoffs (especially Manny), defensively responsible, reasonably physical and kill penalties well. Anyone of those three (Moore, Marchant and Malhotra) would be good role players, who would provide better depth at center than Hecht. None of the three would be as big of a pickup as we might like -- Lang is closer to that -- but each would add value.
wjag Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Havlat to Wild. Not much chatter on this one... Almost slipped by un-noticed. Day Two has been boring.......

bob_sauve28 Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I'm curious to see if Gionta has anything left in the tank or if he's the next Briere. NEVER sign little guys past 30... You keep making this point but I have a hard time agreeing with it. Briere isn't hurt because he is small, he's got a groin problem. Lindros wasn't small and he didn't hold up. Heck, the bigger, physical players might even break down faster since they take more hits.
wjag Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Tell me what wjag means please it has been killing me for 2+ years It's my initials.. Some of my long time friends even pronounce it as wood-jag.. I sign all my stuff at work that way and it kind of stuck as one of many of my nicknames..

wjag Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Thanks. My friends just call me peckerhead. I like your nickname more. :) Well they don't call me that, but they do refer to me as EBM for Evil Boss Man... It's a name I wear with a degree of pride. When I was in Kuwait, I had it sewn into my hat.
Foligno's Nose Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Mara be nice on the PP. He might have a little problem with Kaleta. Nothing they couldn't work out over a couple of beers. Leopold would be good. Then we would have half of the defensive corp from Calgary's last cup run. McKee - only if he comes cheap. Beauchemin, Bergeron would work OK as well. Dominic Moore??? I did not see enough from him as a Sabre, but he played well with the Leafs. He would have to come cheaper as well - under $2M per. Hecht and Tallinder need to be gone. Even if they have to be waived. I think it has come to that for both. Don't think they should return at all.

My friends and co-workers call me (just a sample from a much larger list): mother f*#ker c@#ks$@#er a#$hole sonofabitch d#*khead & f*#kface And those are the PC monikers. All terms of endearment. I love those guys.

He's proven that with Max and actually said it.
Calvin Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Leopold's signed a one year contract with the Panthers.. $1.75 million

Two or less Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 Leopold's signed a one year contract with the Panthers.. $1.75 million wow.... that's shocking to me. Figured he could get more money then that.
