nfree pretty much posted most of what I was going to write before i just had a lightening surge...

but Spacek and Gil are NOT better than Shneider and Komiserik

And I don't think you would find too many people who think so....

Gainey could still sign Kovalev, and now I think he has to to make this work.

Not a bad day....but it is hard to say he made the Habs better yet.

Didn't Spacek outscore Shneider and Komiserik combined last season?

It took two years for the Sabres to realize things weren't working out, and they let Briere and the Intangible walk. You were not happy with that if I remember correctly, but maybe I don't. The Sabres blew it up quickly enough--they're just rebuilding differently. Instead of overspending recklessly, they are trying to build from within. Not sure whether it will work, but the Sabres certainly realized what was NOT working, and that was Briere, Drury, Campbell, and the rest of the "leaders" that failed to inspire the team to play decent hockey down the stretch in 2007.

I appreciate the support in my current disagreement with DeLuca, but this is revisionist history worthy of Ahmedinejad.

Call'em out who's in ur 16.5 million waste bag? I'm closer to 20 mill.

Connolly $4,500,000.00

Hecht $3,800,000.00

Lalime $1,000,000.00

Lydman $3,150,000.00

Paetsch $1,050,000.00

Tallinder $3,250,000.00

I'm using the NHLPA numbers. The actual total maybe off a little.

I'll take a Lydman and a Connolly for $7,650,000 Alex.

Shneider yes. Komiserik no.

Schneider? Seriously, the guys 40. You want a puck mover? The guy gets cramps putting on his skates. Left handed shot to boot.

Remember, if one team has to be the smart one and not overpay then our Sabres are that team.

Seriously, some of the cash thrown around is a joke and many of these players will not fit into their team's style of play, etc.

The Canucks and the Sedins. That one I can agree with. They are among the most consistent players out there. They play all the games and are now in their prime. Their contracts are big, but they also make sense.

Havlat going to the Wild??? Why? Unless they go up tempo, he's a lost sole. I'd hope their new coach sees that.

Gaborik? Why? $7.5 million per for an avg of 51 games per season??

The Sedins are point a game players, are durable and compliment their team.

Some of these other signings are pure tom foolery.

As for our team. Again, I'd rather they build from within and not overpay. We need to tweak some things. Get bigger in some areas, get tougher in others. We have the skill already. I say we better the HABS and NYR next year.

$7.65 mil :censored: :censored: :censored:

For that amount of money you could get a real player. :censored: :censored: :censored:

I think you misread the question. Or, I did.

Connolly. Again, not many players are better "when he plays" and that is the risk factor. The team's record with him in the lineup against out is much better when he's in.

Hecht - If he continues to stink like last year, then yes I'll agree, but maybe it was one year.

Lydman - I think he's ok, maybe overpaid a million.

Paetsch - He can be replaced by others but they'll only make slightly less than he does.

Lalime - What are you going to get for a million bucks in the backup role?

Tallinder - He needs a change. That is obvious.

:wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: I know talking about Connolly with U. I don't like the nepotism either, but we'll see. Maybe he's the second coming if he plays a full season, now. I still want a vet top six forward.

That did make me laugh. But really, would any of us be happy if the Sabres had spent the kind of money on their former players, that the former players commanded? No. Those guys had a couple of chances, as someone earlier posted, and didn't get it done.

DeLuca--saw what you posted after my reply & I do agree that there is some dead weight, but how to get rid of that dead weight NOW, if we're not talking about two years ago?

How come most of the GM's in the NHL act as if July 1st is Christmas morning, and grab everything before the sun even comes up? I would love it if Darcy would actually treat July 1st the way many other GM's do one time. I'm not wanting him to sign an 8 million dollar a year player, but I would like it if Darcy picked up someone who has already made a big impact somewhere else. Darcy made such a big front page signing today...

It's not most GMs. It's generally the same 4 or 5 guys each year.

TSN was showing a graphic today, that teams who spend the most $$$ on July 1st, usually comes to haunt them in the end. GM's panic and want to rebuild as quickly as possible and forget to remember finances for the future. Montreal's spending today, though looks sexy on paper, could really back fire on them. All three forwards they signed are soft.... on an already soft team..... and Spacek got over paid. We'll see how it turns out but as much as i want Regier to fix this team, i hope he never goes into a day spending money like a crazy manor.

No doubt teams overpaid today in free agency, but the Sabres still need a veteran, gritty top six forward in the ranks.

Hopefully Darcy can work some magic and acquire one via trade.

If Mantador is the only acquisition this summer, the Sabres are in trouble.

I think most here would agree with that.

How about Dany Heatley?

The Sens had to pay his $4 million bonus and now if they do deal him, they have lost that coin.

I'd be inclined to send him a strong message come Oct. Send him down to the AHL and see how he likes it there. Sure, they'd lose him on re-entry waivers, but they don't have to recall him either. SOB. Not that I mind him hurting the Sens, but what a prick.

The Sabres may not sign anymore FA's but there will be some trades this summer. Mark my words, the deals will happen this summer, Finally!!

Yeah, I'm envious of the 17 games he played last year. And the 51 games played he's avg'd over the past 4 seasons.

The price the NYR paid for Gaborik was high, no doubt. But getting any goal scorer off of the Wild is going to enhance their career numbers. As for the injury thing, no disputing that. He hasn't played a lot. I still think this was one of the day one FA gems. I would be flat out drooling if he was sporting a slug.
