Eleven Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 The chance that Max signs somewhere on Wednesday is very slim; still, I wanted to get this poll out before the FA period started. EDIT: Where did my poll go? Well, the question and choices were these: Where do you predict--not hope, but predict--Max will end up at the start of next season? 1. With the Sabres. 2. With another NHL team for $2M/yr or more 3. With another NHL team for less than $2M/yr. 4. With a KHL team. 5. With an AHL team. 6. In some other league. 7. Out of hockey.
carpandean Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 I would say that he either signs a one-year, low priced, "prove I can still be an NHLer" contract or he heads back to Russia. Although, wasn't there something about the Russian mafia being after him?

Stoner Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 I hope ma boy-eeeee is back in Bufftown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fdq3b8iq_E0
shrader Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 I think that was Mogilny. Maybe Max, too, though. Crazy Cossacks. Max came back from Russia in the offseason one or two years prior to the lockout with a concussion and a nasty gash on his forehead. He never gave a straight story on what happened. There have been plenty of comments over the years from other Russian players (Zhitnik being one, yes, I know he's from Ukraine) that some questions are better left unanswered. It's pretty much assumed at this point that it was mafia. As for the mafia thing though, he did go back to play during the lockout, so who knows.

deluca67 Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Max will play in the WFL with JP Loseman

darksabre Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 If he stays in the NHL it'll be for a low price and with a team that is looking for some speed at the forward position. NHL team should have solid defense. I could see a playoff contender signing him for the league minimum to fill the spot of a dime-a-dozen forward. If he leaves the NHL though, I would guess the DEL or some other European league.
SabresFan526 Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 My guess is Washington at a low price maybe $1 million for one year. This is because they lost Kozlov and Federov. I think Max will actually be a good fit there with Ovechkin, Varlamov, and Semin. If not Washington, then KHL, specifically Dynamo. There's no specific reason for Dynamo and I have no idea if he has a connection with them or not, it's just a hunch.

Unless Yuklund has any "rumors" out there about if Max is staying or going, I just don't see him in Blue and Gold next season.
Two or less Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I think he signs a discount deal of around $2 million per with Washington Capitals. Maybe even a 1 year deal. Max and Ovechkin are good friends and Caps tried to get Max before. Max usually always is Alex's linemate when they play for Russia.
thesportsbuff Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I hope he signs a 1 yr league-minimum contract with the Buffalo #%^$#!ing Sabres. Call me crazy, but I'd rather have a healthy Max in the lineup that the inevitable Macarthur, Paille, Hecht.
Two or less Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Seriously? MacArthur, though very inconsistant, scored some big goals. I heard some stat on Mac the other day, he led the Sabres in 3rd period goals after the ASG? Something like that. Or goals in final 5 minutes after the ASG. I guess i should have listened more in depthly but still, MacArthur is better and younger then Max. MacArthur >>>>>>> Paille >>>>> Max.

I don't want to see him go down as the prime example of benefiting from the "new NHL" rules. I think he still has some talent.
darksabre Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Anyone who wants Max back in Blue and Gold obviously didn't watch this team the last two years. Max contributes nothing to this team anymore and should not be back. No matter what. Unless he wants to sign with Portland, I don't want to see him on the ice anymore.
TM8-PL16 Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I seriously doubt he'll be in Russia... he's an American citizen now, why go thru all that if he's going to go back to Russia... I don't see it. I think he'll be in the NHL somewhere, although I know everyone here is down on him, someone will pay him. I think the Pens might offer him a small $ deal but many people are saying the Caps... someone will snag him up before training camp for sure.
wonderbread Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Max will go out west somewhere. Vancouver/LA/Pheonix.
