SDS Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 gee, he better be some sort of specialist or have a LOT of growing to do because how does that work?
wjag Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 That is a surprise at number 11. That looks like a Buffalo Bills pick...
wjag Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Glad you guys know more than the experts! Thank you. But you'd be surprised, I don't. But I did sleep at a.... A 173 lb 5'9" Defensemen seems way too small for the NHL..
SDS Posted June 27, 2009 Author Report Posted June 27, 2009 Glad you guys know more than the experts! Actually, what did I say I know? I asked how that works. In other words, I asked if someone could explain why he was chosen so high despite his size.
nobody Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Actually, what did I say I know? I asked how that works. In other words, I asked if someone could explain why he was chosen so high despite his size. Maybe they expect him to grow another 5 inches in the next couple years.
wjag Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Maybe they expect him to grow another 5 inches in the next couple years. And add 50lbs..
wjag Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 At #12 is a 6'0" 170lbs Dman... Maybe this is "the New" NHL we been hearing about..
nobody Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 At #12 is a 6'0" 170lbs Dman... Maybe this is "the New" NHL we been hearing about.. Going back to that speedy league of a few years ago now that the Sabres are picking big and tough?
Stoner Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 The guy was pretty highly rated. It's not like the pick is shocking. I don't know. Who cares.
jimiVbaby Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 The guy was pretty highly rated. It's not like the pick is shocking. I don't know. Who cares. There you go, someone had to say it. I may be the only one, but I would have loved him on the Sabres. You can find toughness and grit in rounds 3-7 like Brian Burke said.

jimiVbaby Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 I wish I had said it! Well everyone's bagging on the poor kid, but they don't realize he has may just have much talent as Hedman but not the size. At least you stated the truth.

At least you stated the truth. no one is banging on him. Clearly he has something or he wouldn't have been rated or drafted that high. His size is curious though.

That makes sense but I think you know he's not going to check someone through the boards when you draft him. I've watched a lot of his games and I swear I have never seen him make a silly mistake. His passes are crisp, a cannon for a shot, and has been a leader on his WJC and CHL championship teams.
carpandean Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 You can find toughness and grit in rounds 3-7 like Brian Burke said. True, but does the toughness and grit in rounds 3-7 make it into your top six forwards or top defensive pair? While Burke wasn't GM at the time that they were picked, the Ducks' tough and gritty guys in their top six and top pairing were all first-round picks: Getzlaf (19th overall, 2003), Corey Perry (28 overall, 2003) and Chris Pronger (2nd overall, 1993). Even Bobby Ryan (2nd overall, 2005) is big and has shown glimpses of physical play. Of course, Scott Niedermayer (3rd overall, 1991) isn't exactly lacking in those characteristics, either.
X. Benedict Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 gee, he better be some sort of specialist or have a LOT of growing to do because how does that work? Like Phil Housley. Of course Ray Bourke would hold him at arms length like Butch did to Spanky.

Too bad the Sabres didn't draft him. Darcy needed another Oompa Loompa for the team's production of 'Charlie And the Chocolate Factory'

Alaska Darin Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Kimmo Timonen ain't much bigger than that and he's a hell of a player. I'm sure by the time the kid hits the ice in the NHL he's 190+.

shrader Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Nashville is having a nice draft.Ellis and Budish was a steal in the second. I'm surprised Budish fell as far as he did, but that knee has to be a serious concern.
X. Benedict Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 I'm surprised Budish fell as far as he did, but that knee has to be a serious concern. If the Sabres took him at #13 I wouln't have complained.
thesportsbuff Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 If the Sabres took him at #13 I wouln't have complained. Until he starts missing games with injuries and everyone gives up on him like they did Timmy The Man Connolly.
