They aren't hurting for money; just cap space. Actually, no. It all comes back to that 35 years old when signing the contract issue. Being sent down to the minors has no effect on the cap hit. It still counts. Then there's the no movement clause. He'd have to agree to be sent down.

I'm betting that Philly will convince the league (if they really have to) that Pronger's "extension" is part of his contract where he is only 34 currently so that 35 years old rules will not apply.
