cdexchange Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 that would kind of suck. Dammit, I just saw this
silvermike Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 They have to cut a lot of salary for that, right?
cdexchange Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 They have to cut a lot of salary for that, right? Maybe Briere is involved...
darksabre Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 TSN is as confused as we are about the cap. But they say its true, Pronger to Philly.
silvermike Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 They shed $5M and picked up a little more than $6M, so they're still under the cap on NHLnumbers, which puts them right about at the cap. They absolutely need to sign a second goalie, but otherwise could at least field a full team.
wonderbread Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 wtf? Why can't DR make a move like this?
SDS Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 wtf? Why can't DR make a move like this? Two 1st rounders? Really? Why is that so desirable?
wonderbread Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Two 1st rounders? Really? Why is that so desirable? Lets see. Top 5 D-man in the league for some mid draft possible Zagrapan's and Paille's? I wonder why?
SDS Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 Lets see. Top 5 D-man in the league for some mid range possible Zagrapan's? I wonder why? wow, so thoughtful of you. At least I know not to bother having a serious conversation with you.
wonderbread Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 wow, so thoughtful of you. At least I know not to bother having a serious conversation with you. Look I already know you are the ultimate hockey guru around here scott but there is no need to come across like an a#$^$#!e because we differ in opinion.
Strow Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Really its 3 1st round picks the Sbisa kid was a first last year. Not a trade I would make
SDS Posted June 26, 2009 Author Report Posted June 26, 2009 Look I already know you are the ultimate hockey guru around here scott but there is no need to come across like an a#$^$#!e because we differ in opinion. look jackass, I asked a serious question and you answered back with a condescending, thoughtless, smart ass reply. If it is such a no-brainer Mr. Wonderful maybe you can explain why the Ducks made the trade in the 1st place? After all, everyone offers multiple 1st round draft picks for 35 year old players right?

My reply was neither condescending nor thoughtless. I personally think that I would rather have a sure thing now versus some picks later. There is no guarentee with these picks. That's my opinion. Philadelphia just better in the 2009-2010 season. Of course if our 13th pick pans out in 2-3-4 years I will go back and re-evaulate my position. No need to call me a jackass either. And its wonderbread get it right. The ducks made the trade because the got Whitney in the spring and they are restocking their cupboard. While I will agree that Philly did give up a lot in the draft this is the type of player that the Sabres D needs.
darksabre Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Good trade for the Ducks in my opinion. Agreed. And a bad trade for us. Pronger is not someone I want to be playing more often.
nobody Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Agreed. And a bad trade for us. Pronger is not someone I want to be playing more often. Maybe he'll get into a fight with Emery in practice and brake his hand.
wjag Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 I don't see the wisdom of this trade. Sure we all know what Pronger could bring, but can he still bring it? At 35, he has a lot of mileage on that body. I don't have the numbers, just my perception that last year wasn't that great a year for him. Seems to me Philly gave up a lot.. EDIT: So I looked his stats up. Much to my surprise, he is a model of consistency in GP, G, A, and Pts.

Pronger is a man among boys over here, despite his age. I think he will thrive even more here than in the West, especially as the East (and the NHL) moves back to a more defensive style. I would be surprised if he turned out to be a flop for Philly. He's that veteran defensive presence any good team needs.

Well I guess and I admit I'm theorizing here, a Gonchar aged player (team we just saw win the cup) for Philly who saw and filled a definite need, and the fact they have lost to the pens in the last 2 years playoff's says alot about their thinking and the move they made. nobody Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 And the trade gets even better for the Ducks. Dropping down 5 spots and getting another 2nd rounder.
X. Benedict Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 The idea of Timmonen and Pronger on the blue line is a really scary thought. It is a win now mentality. I'm not sure how they make it fit in the cap....but Lupal, Sbisa, and two first rounders is a lot to pay for a win now pick.

That's a steep price to pay, especially when couple with whatever they're going to have to pay to unload Briere's deal. They're really going to have to sweeten any deal that involves him.
