nobody Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 After reading Bob McKenzie's Draft Rankings about Jordan Caron: Rank: 22 Style: Steve Bernier. How can the Sabres not be going after him?
CallawaySabres Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 http://www.sabresprospects.com/ PS Fans of drafting Kassian won't be happy reading the preview. Actually, after reading that, I want him even more. This just states that there could be someone even more explosive but that is exactly what the Sabres don't need right NOW. They need someone who is going to clear the way for the talent we already have. Why not grab (if available) the "one true power forward" in the first round. Let's focus on getting that explosive player in FA (which we all know will not happen for at least another year)

shrader Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 I give people a lot of credit for going that deep into an NHL draft preview. I can't imagine the effort it would take. But really, I've never seen the point to slotting those late round picks. The miss rate has to be through the roof.

shrader Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 The guy has done remarkably well in the past. He got Adam and Fienhage (wrong pick) last year. Pretty good. Do you know if there is more than what was archived on the site because I have a hard time believing that anyone would have any luck going to the 4th round and beyond.
VansTheMans Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Chris Kreider is actually another play I'd be happy if the Sabres drafted. Most mock drafts have him going in the 2nd round; however, since the Sabres don't have a 2nd round pick this year, if they want him they have to draft him 13th overall. The same sentiment goes for Zach Budish. Kassian, Kreider, Budish. All three big, strong offensively talented forwards that the Sabres need. Anyone would be a good pick up. The author of the article also stated that Jordan Caron would be a wise pick up. While Im not familiar with Carol, most mock drafts do predict him going later in the 1st round.
wonderbread Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 wow that was some comprehensive stuff there. DR should hire him. He's gotta be better than youtube. :wallbash: /sarc off

Chris Kreider will be a mid-first round pick. The guy is very raw and won't make NHL for like 3 years. That's why i don't see Buffalo picking him. He played in prep Mass school, and the talent there is very weak. It's been weak for like last 10 years. The reward is very high on Kreider, but the risk is very high as well. I usually love Baker's articles, but this one didn't make too much sense to me. He wants a game breaker. Does not think Kassian is a game-breaker.... compared to Brandon Morrow by McKeen, compared to Todd Bertuzzi or Milan Lucic by TSN and Bob McKenzie, and compared to Jerome Iginla by his head coach, compared to Mike Knuble by TSN's Criag Button. Then he wants Caron, a player, who is "tough" but the wrong tough imo. Makes a lot of bad hits, stupid penalties and well, isn't the most liked guy in the locker. Pierre McGuire tonight on TSN's mock draft special picked Caron to go 28th to Chicago. Not exactly a game breaker going that late in round one.

Is this what what you mean? 2008 Draft Preview
shrader Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Is this what what you mean? 2008 Draft Preview I missed that one and only looked at his mock instead. I was wondering if there might be any archived stuff somewhere else for 2007 and earlier. But anyway, I wish I had the time and resources to look over all of the leagues that deeply. College is simple enough, but after that I can only keep up on one of the lower level American junior leagues.
deluca67 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Looking at the TSN Mock Draft I noticed three players with the comment "smash mouth", Brayden Schenn, Zach Kassian and Jared Cowen. I'm not a draftnik, as a fan I would like to see that comment attached to whoever the Sabres draft at #1. The last things I want to see attached are smooth skating or offensive potential.

You recommend trading down into the 3rd round. Hard-nosed with no touch and poor skating do not get you into the 1st.

There are simply WAAAAAAY too many players and too many leagues to accurately predict anything. I'm getting a migraine just thinking about it...
