matter2003 Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 It really sickens me that I have to watch numerous times as other cities get champions in more than one sport in the same year, and we can't even get one ever in any sport... Steelers and now the Penguins Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox within 2 or 3 years of each other... Yankees and Giants within a few years... Lakers and Angels.... It makes me sick to have to watch this and know our teams are nowhere close to winning a championship....

Take solace in the fact that the Arizona Cardinals were just about as lowly as the Bills have been for a longer period of time. There is a chance... Just sayin.
Stoner Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 Montreal Boston Philadelphia New York Islanders Edmonton Calgary Pittsburgh New York Rangers New Jersey Colorado Detroit Dallas Tampa Bay Carolina Anaheim Franchises that have won the Cup since Buffalo entered the league. My two cents is that until the small-market mindset is wiped out, until winning a championship becomes more important than the bottom line, there will be no Stanley Cup in Buffalo, except to be presented to the opponent every 24 years.
shrader Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox within 2 or 3 years of each other... In the 9 years since I've been out here, Boston has: -2 World Series -3 Superbowls -3 NCAA hockey championships -1 NBA championship I need to move back home.
deluca67 Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 I just want "one" as well. Just "one" sign from this organization is going to break from it's traditional mold and be aggressive in overhauling this roster and replace the current group of soft batch cookies with a batch of cookies with nuts.
shrader Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 It really is amazing how just one changes your attitude on everything. I got my national championship this year and I look at everything completely differently now. Who knows how long that will last though.

Seriously??? I mean, I know the Buffalo Bandits aren't considered a real sport but they have a national championship.... FWIW Agreed tho, 1 in any sport that i care about would be worth anything.

SwampD Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 All I want is one as well, but boy, I sure hope Lindy is coaching when it happens, 'cuz if we ever won it all and Lindy wasn't at the helm I would feel so empty inside. He's such a nice guy and all and he's so good that I just don't know where we'd be without him. If we didn't have Lindy coaching these last...let's just say about a third of all Sabres games ever played, who knows where we'd be. I sure hope he's the coach forever 'cuz the thought of watching the Sabres without him on the bench just makes me feel like, well, that's a dark place that I'm not willing to go to right now. ;)

LabattBlue Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 I've been following the Sabres since their first year and the Bills since the late 60's. I have often stated "just give me one championship to celebrate whether it be football or hockey". With the close calls they have had(no need to re-live the agony), I wonder if I am going to see a championship celebration on the steps of city hall in my lifetime.
darksabre Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 Watching Satan actually lay the body last night makes me wonder if Ruff really is the problem.

I think a lot of us are asking ourselves the exact same question. I'm sure a lot of us assume a championship will be won before we pass on, but I have come to terms w/ the idea of a championship not being won in my lifetime. I'm only 28, but I think of relatives who have passed on, and they, too, thought they'd see a championship brought to Buffalo w/ in their lifetime... If they didn't see or experience it, there certainly is no gurantee that I, all of you included, will. Ok, after writing this post, I have the repeated desire to win a Cup w/ the Buffalo Sabres in NHL 09, and a Superbowl w/ the Bills in Madden 09. Woo hoo! :(

Buffalo ownership and management ultimately can't compete with the money thrown around by the big boys. They're not smart enough or rich enough and the market can't support it. If you're an underdog you have to try harder and the Sabres keep picking players who can't or won't. Try being a Cubs fan...

But it bothers me much more when non-hockey markets like Carolina, Tampa and Anaheim get their "one" as opposed to other cities getting multiple trophies.

I got my national championship this year and I look at everything completely differently now. Who knows how long that will last though. Not nearly long enough...after Ohio State won the NC in 2002, I was on cloud nine...it wore off fairly quickly...helped of course by the debacles in 2006/2007. Suffering through the 4 Super Bowls, the "No Goal" Finals and back to back drubbings for OSU, not to mention as an Indians fan, the 95 & 97 WS makes that one NC high fade quick.

What they really should have done is tanked it for 4 straight years so they could have drafted Malkin, Crosby, Fluery, etc. The most remarkable thing is the Pittsburgh Franchise was less than 24 hours from being pulled out of that city in 3 years ago.

The Bills did win an AFL championship back in the day before the SB(2 I think if I'm not mistaken...), but I don't think it had anywhere near the same effect back then as it does now on a fanbase...

Yes...I was busy watching in Columbus, OH at the time and wanted to puke my guts out after having to endure seeing everyone else in the room celebrating...I think I may hate that team more than any other, and yet I don't really know why... Perhaps it was seeing everyone in Columbus(and really in the entire state of Ohio almost) in love with a college team instead of a pro team, and just couldn't relate to them since barely anyone in this area cares about college teams(I guess it would help if any of them were any good---although I have to admit I started listening to and watching UB football games the past few years...) Anyways, I was literally stunned they beat the Hurricanes...I think if they replayed that game 100 times, Miami would have won 95 of them, but Ohio State just happened to play on a day that was one of the 5 they could have won...

rickshaw Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 I remember when my Rams won the Superbowl. It was such a big relief and I'm happy to have that one. My Lakers won again tonight, yesssssssssss, but nothing would mean more than a Sabres win. Just one makes a huge difference.

Yeah, and there fans really don't appreciate it. Meanwhile Buffalo fans are freaking starving for a championship and would relish it very much.
