deluca67 Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 This is the post it will be fun to look at when the Sabres are back in the Eastern Conference finals. Let's hope the retirement home has the 'world wide inter-web' so we can look back on it years from now.
deluca67 Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Chatty Cathy signed for not much more than Lalime ain't that a kick in the head? Which makes Biron a great value. Too bad the Sabres didn't have the foresight to finally address the issue with the backup goalie. Even if they had to eat the $1 mil of Lalime's contract. If Marty would have signed in Buffalo for $1.4 I would have no problem having Lalime ride the pine in Portland behind Enroth. Just as long as Lalime doesn't try to coach Enroth in any way.

He's out there trying to earn his next starting job, not fall to the backup role playing 15 games a year.

He's out there trying to earn his next starting job, not fall to the backup role playing 15 games a year. I would like to hear Marty say that. The Sabres are paying a backup only $400K less for a goalie that is far inferior to Marty Biron. I would say what a bad job Regier did in selling the job to Biron but I think we all know a call was never made. Regier is already on summer vacation which will allow every opportunity to improve this hockey club to continue to skate on buy.
Foligno's Nose Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 What about Rick Dipietro? Good question. Is there something we don't know here??? Having DiPietro and Roloson on a roster is one thing. Having DiPietro, Roloson and Biron on a roster is another. I'm missing something. The one thing I am not missing is that Philadelphia continues to shortchange themselves in net once again. They have a long history of this to uphold though. I think they gave up after Pelle Lindbergh's tragic accident years back. Hextall was maybe the exception...and that's a stretch. The other thing I am not missing is that Darcy has, with all the goaltending available, continued to shortchange us with back-ups since Biron's departure from here. They could have easily brought the man back...for his presence/ character alone.
inkman Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 They could have easily brought the man back...for his presence/ character alone. The Sabres refuse to eat contracts and admit mistakes. Whether financial or egotistic, there absolutely is no way they ever do it. If Afinogenov couldn't get bought out or waived, then who will?

If Afinogenov couldn't get bought out or waived, then who will? I guess I can only provide a list of players I only hope would be considered. I still could not believe they gave Max ice time late last season after his return from injury. This is an obvious overstatement, but, Darcy and Lindy are way too forgiving and committed to a lot of these players. That alone will cost them their jobs eventually. Cut the cord(s) gentlemen. Fans here and everywhere want to see This team, Lindy and Darcy succeed. After another unsuccessful, non-playoff season though, this fan will settle for just seeing the team succeed without any concern as to who is on the roster, who is the general manager, or who is the coach. Again, this is their last opportunity in my eyes.

shrader Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 At this point, the DiPietro thing can't be a serious question. This signing makes it more than obvious that he's not ready to come back (if ever).
Foligno's Nose Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 I'm glad you added that last part, because after 12 years, unfortunately it probably isn't their last chance. Possibly. If we go three years out of the playoffs, there best be an uprising coming from somewhere. Lindy would have to consider walking. Missing the playoffs again is unacceptable. Missing them at all, is unacceptable. I've got no time for rebuilding.

spndnchz Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 I forget what the hell happened to him. Bad knees, bad surgeries, this link sheds some light.

wonderbread Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 They're looking for their next GM. 2009-2010 new Sabres slogan. "Hey at least we are not the Islanders" I think its better than "One Goal"

carpandean Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 2009-2010 new Sabres slogan. "Hey at least we are not the Islanders" I think its better than "One Goal" I'm only semi-serious about this, but ... Last year the Islanders played a lot of kids and didn't expect to win anything. Most of those kids were just happy to be playing and they looked like they were constantly working hard and were very excited when they did win games. On top of that, they got Tavares for the future. I'm not sure that Sabres fans were any happier with their season than Islander fans were.

The Islanders have fans??? Seriously tho, I knew a few of them from "the island" and they really don't care unless they are in the playoffs. Just the typical NY attitude towards the team.
X. Benedict Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 At this point, the DiPietro thing can't be a serious question. This signing makes it more than obvious that he's not ready to come back (if ever). I think it may also be a matter of Long Island being in rebuild mode again. Garth Snow probably took a lesson from John Davidson in St. Louis. Sign Veterans cheap and come the trade deadline their values rise for trade bait.

Just the typical NY attitude towards the team. Yeah, I wasn't speaking from any knowledge of their fan base. Perhaps, I should have said " I'm not sure that Sabres fans were any happier with their season than they would have been with the Islanders'.
Calvin Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Having DiPietro, Roloson and Biron on a roster is another. I'm missing something. Yeah, the Islanders are planning to have at least one of the goalies play either D or center.
Foligno's Nose Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Bad knees, bad surgeries, this link sheds some light. Good find. You're the man!,..woman! Sounds as though they may sit DiPietro the whole season, or a majority of it.
X. Benedict Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Marty talks to Stan Fishler.....on why the Isles..... http://www.maxhockey.com/Fischler/Fischler_072709.php
