Who Do you Want?

Welcome to Rumourland. by Eck: Hockeybuzz.com Rumorland

Antropov: I continue to hear more and more regarding the BLue Jackets

Aucoin: I am hearing there is a much greater chance that Adrian will now return to Chicago. which while I thought this was a bit counter-intuitive, it has nothing to do with Keenan's departure.

Beauchemin: The Canadiens still lead the way here, but Anaheim may still be making a push to sign him early.

Biron: The Avalanche are now looking like a player in the Marty Biron sweeps, as are the Sabres.

Bouwmeester:The Flames really are leading the way here, and that really means that Dion Phaneuf is going to be on the move I am told. Likely at the Draft.

DeVries:The Wild are now joining the Flyers and others.

Dubielewicz:Long Island Dubie, Dubie, Dubie, Do...

Gionta:More of a Buffalo push, but the Canucks are definitely the team to beat.

Cammalleri:Ottawa the Fav, but a little more from Montreal.

Knuble:I now am giving the Flyers more of a chance at bringing him back...still not the favorite for his services however. He is a VERY valuable UFA, btw.

Koistinen:Tampa and Buffalo slightly edging out Toronto and Philly. Nashville is also to be considered...

Komisarek: There may be no player that will have more suitors than Mike will.

That would be cool to see Biron back in Buffalo; maybe slightly humbled and now content with #2 behind Miller. I think he would add some more character and chattiness/ swagger to the team again.

Eric Cole would be great, but I don't know if the Sabres would even be interested.

I'm a bit more lenient on Hecht...he was once on the top line of Briere and DuMont before ownership decided to short change the team by letting both DuMont AND Briere go. Hecht can't be blamed for that...

Afinogenov (hopefully) will be gone- and his $3.5 million will be free for someone new (and can actually score).

I hope that this team pulls the trigger one way or the other on the streaky Stafford. Sometimes, he plays like a player possessed, and the rest of the time like a lug.

Other than that, whatever happens, I hope that the Sabres are aggressive and bring in atleast 5 new faces this offseason.

It's time for a new identity. Or, atleast have an identity.

Umm ... no. His $3.5 million and Kotalik's $2.5 million combined aren't even enough to cover Pommer's and Miller's $7.8 million in raises from last year. None of that is free to do anything with. Some of Spacek's $3.33 million might be free, if they don't re-sign him, but Reggie and Drew need to be re-signed and will likely be receiving raises over their current $659k and $984k. The fact is that the same team, letting UFAs walk, re-signing RFAs and filling holes with Pirates or cheap spare parts (league minimum guys) will actually cost more than the 2008-09 team did. The internal budget will have to go up, some unfavorable contracts (e.g., Tallinder's for one year or Hecht's for multi-year) will have to be unloaded on someone foolish enough to take them and/or Darcy will have to work some trade magic in for any improvements to be made to this roster.

IF Chokin Jochen, PomminSNORE, and Tallinpuke play to their best upside they can be ok..Doubtful but is possible. That is the only way out of this mess till 1. The cap goes way up or 2. those players move on..I doubt we sign any freeagents..

For some reason I have a little hope that Pommer can see the light, but lets not forget that he came into his own while playing with a top notch center in BD.

Jochen and Tallinder are done I feel. What we saw from them is what we will get.

imo if darcy can pull off unloading hecht and tallinder's salary he's a genius, cause i can't think of any team off the top of my head that would bother

Agreed. I think he would be able to move Hank before Hecht. I can't see anyone wanting anything to do with that huge contract for a slow, sub 20 goal scorer whose defense is in the outhouse.

how many seasons will this be that Eck has banged on the Derek Morris to Buf drum?

I noticed that myself. Morris won't go away. He's quickly becoming the next Eric Daze. That guy was supposed to heading for Buffalo every year and it never happened.

When I look at the list though and see Gionta? Just what this team needs. Another 5'7' guy right?

Ohlunld is 34 I believe however played in 82 games last year. Better years behind him.

Cammalleri is going to command a huge contract. 40 goals last year. Thats TV Money! lol

With the contracts we have I just don't see these guys as being fits with Buffalo.

I'd love to have Cammalleri but his contract will be huge...plus did I mention he's 5'9'

Gionta doesn't play like he's 5'7," though. Gionta consistently hangs tough around the net and plays well on the man up. I'd rather have him than a guy over 6'0" who is afraid to take a physical pounding (see: Ales Kotalik).

Seriously? Is this typical Ek or has Phaneuf fallen out of favor in Calgary?

If Phaneuf is on the block I WOULD send the FLames whatever it took..

We don't have a top defenseman on this team. That's why Ottawa always takes it too us with their big line. I generally like our defensman, but they are all only above average, IMO. No really way above average players there. I think the younger kids will be better after their first full season, which really burned Sekera out. I think the goal scoring will come along.

No doubt about that one, but I doubt the Flames are willing to part with Phaneuf. He is a defensive stud.

However, Calgary did fire Mike Keenan on Friday. They are fuming over another first round loss. Perhaps they are prepared to blow up the roster and bring in new players?

If so, Phaneuf would be a killer pick up for the Sabres.

Imagine Phaneuf and Myers on the blueline :worthy:

Unfortunatley all dreams end with the alarm clock ringing..If this dream were to happen I am more than sure Myers would be going the other way..

...and if supermodels who love to perform are knocking on my door, I'm going to answer.

First to admit I watch very little of the Western conferance, but I seem to recall reading that Phaneuf had an awful year this year and many a fan and writer think he is on the downside. If I recall, he is making over $6.5M(not sure how many years left),so maybe some truth to the trade rumors

How can a 24 yo w/ that much natural talent be "on the downside?"

If only they ordered pizza.

Then wouldn't he be knocking on THEIR doors?

The only teams that come into mind are Atlanta and LA. Both have cap room, and both need a top 6 offensive d man.

(Lmao,fantasy thought) :

Jochen Hecht + Henrik Tallinder for

Zach Bogosian

But hey, there the same franchise who traded Braydon Coburn for Alexi Zhitnik
