rickshaw Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 I have got to say this kid is the real deal. Such a good skater for such a big man. He is a very good puck handler as well. He just made a great play on the Rockets' 3rd goal. It's currently 3-3 against Drummondville. The Sabres seriously have a beauty in this kid. I'd say that in the next 4-5 years he's going to be one of the leagues' top defenders.

All I want know is if this kid is going to bulk up and use his size. The Sabres have enough defensemen who can skate. They need blueliners who can crush people in the corners and in front of the net.

Still want Brooks Orpik?
wonderbread Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Still want Brooks Orpik? Yep! I saw him crush a couple of people last night.
rickshaw Posted May 19, 2009 Author Report Posted May 19, 2009 He uses his body very well. Not afraid to hit guys at all. And I'm still giddy over him getting into a scrum against Calgary and using the other guy's face to get up off the ice.
deluca67 Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Still want Brooks Orpik? Rivet - Butler Spacek - Orpik Sekera - Weber Myers as the #7 That's a group of six I would feel good about going into next season with.

shrader Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Rivet - ButlerSpacek - Orpik Sekera - Weber Myers as the #7 That's a group of six I would feel good about going into next season with. Do you really want a 19 year old up in the press box for the majority of the season? Honestly, I'd be fine with the group you listed above with Myers in that Spacek pairing. You could swap him and Butler, as long as he winds up with one of the vets.
X. Benedict Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Myers is logging an insane amount of minutes. IF he can do that in the bigs, then you can add a sicko, drooling, sociopathic-defender.
LabattBlue Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 How did Myers play last night? I was going to sign up with TW to get the NHL network for a month, but I know I wouldn't have had the time to watch the games so I didn't bother.

I like DeLuca's lineup, but Shrader is right about Myers needing to play. Also, since we don't actually have Orpik, I think the following is realistic: Rivet-Butler Spacek-Myers Sekera-Weber Paetsch as #7 ...although it's more likely that Lydman will be in Weber's spot, since Weber missed most of the year with injuries and didn't look ready for prime time when he was up.

I was going to sign up with TW to get the NHL network for a month, but I know I wouldn't have had the time to watch the games so I didn't bother. To be honest, last night against Windsor I thought he looked tired and soft at times. However, it was a back to back nights situation (which he will need to be ready for in "The Bigs"). The kid is an absolute specimen. He will be a top flight defenseman in the NHL in the coming years. His team, Kelowna, didn't need to win last night either, they are already in the title game.
carpandean Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Also, since we don't actually have Orpik Sure we do ... If I remember correctly, Andrew is a converted defenseman, so we could just deconvert him. To be honest, last night against Windsor I thought he looked tired and soft at times. Myers was a -2 last night, but as sjb012 said, it was a meaningless game for Kelowna and an elimination game for Windsor. I'm sure that the Rockets were playing at about 50% (it actually was in their best interest to have Windsor win since now the bottom two teams have to play in the tie-breaker, so if the winner of that also takes the semi-final, then they should be extremely tired by Sunday.)
Iron Crotch Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Myers is up to 6'8 (by his own admission) and because of that he gets to use a longer than regulation stick, the longest stick they make + an extension. With that kind of reach and skating ability, he's very hard to beat 1 on 1. He's fantastic with the puck and has a rocket (no pun intended) of a shot. And, he's got some nastiness to his game (i.e. he will and does plaster guys against the boards). Although he got a penalty for it last night, I like how he flattened the Windsor guy who was set up in the low slot during the 3rd period Windsor power play with a nasty two-handed crosscheck to the back.

rickshaw Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 Kelowna didn't bring their "A" game against Windsor, knowing that they had a bye to the Final. They had a hard time matching Windsor's intensity which isn't a surprise. I thought Myers looked fine as usual. Used his reach well on many occasions. Nobody had a standout game except the keeper. Tough to be up for a mean nothing game. I wish they had won it, but they are in the Final and that is huge. Myers will be a monster.
