sven233 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Tyler Myers will be in action tonight on the NHL Network (DirecTv 215) at 7:00 as his Kelowna Rockets take on the Rimouski Oceanic. There is a very good chance he will be a full time Sabre next season and he has been tearing it up so it will be well worth your time to take a look at him. He has a great chance to be very special for the Sabres for a VERY LONG TIME! Check it out!
Hirly5 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 This game along with the entire cup looks pretty good. I hope the NHL Network shows the whole thing. They showed some highlights from last year and they action packed.

RuffMuff Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks for the info --- tuning in now! Hey hey, he just put one in!
repster Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 And the first goal in the tournament goes to...you guessed it.
repster Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 I hope they give him at least a look early in the season. The commentators think he's NHL ready. It would be good to have a solid replacement for Teppo and we still have to sign Spacek who's a UFA. Weber had a tough year in Portland last year, but there were injuries involved as well. I'm sure Darcy and Lindy are evaluating as we speak.

Separately, can anyone tell me what level of the playoffs is this for his team? WHL championship series? Is there another tournament after this one?
carpandean Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Wow, a goal, two assists and a +4 so far. Looks like he, Jamie Benn (1G, 2A, +3) and whichever goaltender is playing are fighting for that #1 star. nfreeman: they won the WHL championship. This is the Memorial Cup, which I believe brings together four different league champions (or three and the host city, or something like that.) Edit: their goaltender has only faced 12 shots through 2-1/2 periods and Benn is a forward, so my (slightly biased) vote goes to Tyler. Edit 2: added an offsetting roughing penalty against a 6'5", 215lbs winger. Too bad it wasn't a fighting major; would have liked a Gordie Howe hat trick.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I don't know if he is getting bored or what, but he just skated past two of his own forwards to join a rush ... ended up in a 2-on-1, the puck never came to him and he got caught behind the other net, giving up a 2-on-1 the other way ... he almost got back, the kid covers ground without looking like he is going fast ... I hope he doesn't make a habit of that, but he does look good ... Just took a minus but, was off a faceoff loss, he was never in the play.
sven233 Posted May 16, 2009 Author Report Posted May 16, 2009 Yeah....he put on quite a show! For anyone who missed it, make sure you tune in for the next game. He was definitely a man among boys out there tonight! He will look great in the Blue and Gold for many years to come!
LabattBlue Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 I think the tier of TW digital cable that has the NHL Network would cost me an extra $5 or so per month. I' thinking of adding it on to watch the tournament and then drop it at the end of the month.

wonderbread Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Thanks for posting this. Gotta appreciate NHLN showing this in HD. The kid looks pretty good too. Now if the Sabres could only get their out of town feeds in HD.

Sorry i'm late to the discussion but since noone replied to this i figured i would - You're correct, its the winners of the 3 junior leagues in Canada (OHL, WHL and Quebec) plus the host (Rimonski). Myers looked great. Side note from the game, i thought Novotny (Jiri's brother) looked very good as well. He's entering the draft this season and should be a mid-to-late round pick. He is big and tough and actually uses his body. I really liked Jiri Novotny here, but i think him going straight from the Czech to Rochester then to Buffalo didn't do him favors. He was smart defensivly and had some offensive skills. However, his brother went to WHL and developed the right way. He lacks some offensive skills but he's smart, hits and uses his body well. I heard many good things about him but i wanted to see for myself and Novotny impressed me last night.

Separately, can anyone tell me what level of the playoffs is this for his team? WHL championship series? Is there another tournament after this one? The Rockets won the WHL championship. This is the final tourny for the 3 CHL league winners, plus the host. Myers and the Rockets looked very good last night. They only won 4-1 thanks to the Rimouski keeper. He was lights out.

darksabre Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 This is the tournament that Derek Roy captained the Kitchener Rangers to the championship in 2003, scoring the game-winning goal and being named MVP ... Q: Where is that Derek Roy now? A: Playing on a team of listless hacks. No wonder Roy has turned to cupping the balls of other men, it's the most fun he's had in 6 years.

Derrico Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Well, I missed Tyler's first game but the Rockets are playing again tonight at 7pm if anyone's interested in tunning in. I keep hearing great things from him and he looked great in the WJC, I'll be looking forward to watching him tonight. Man, we haven't had a franchise shut down type defenceman since......I don't even know who the last one would have been.
shrader Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 You don't think he returns the favor? It's common courtesy. You know way too much about these things.
darksabre Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 You know way too much about these things. I read a lot of Art Voice.

Man, we haven't had a franchise shut down type defenceman since......I don't even know who the last one would have been. Can't find it on the 'net, and I'm resisting paying to watch it when there are two NHL teams that I completely can't stand on TV.
repster Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 One assist tonight and a plus 3. Kelowna is winning 6-4 with 2 minutes to go. Played 27 minutes. Wow.
