SwampD Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 Well, I just spent the last hour listening to Run The Jewels because of this thread. Thanks. Quote
Weave Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 Y'all are missing Rage Against the Machine. WTF? Quote

I don't think Rage qualifies as rap because they have an actual band with a guitarist, bassist, drummer, etc. despite the fact that the singer raps between screams. I'd reclassify them as more rock than rap. Quote
ubkev Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 Whelp, Eminem response to Machine Gun Kelly's diss track dropped today. Who won? NSFW Quote
inkman Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 It was good. Really liked the way he did the stop start crap that MGK is famous for. His rhymes were tight and content was deep. As expected. Quote

This video is just one of a million reasons why I have no interest in watching anyone try to play Freddie in any sort of movie, or anything. There is no possible way that it is even a reasonable rendition. Quote
MattPie Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) You don't hear a lot of French punk music in these parts. Original: Found via this cover on Google's GitoGito Hustler radio station: If liking 90s girl punk is wrong, I don't want to be right. Edited September 17, 2018 by MattPie Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted September 28, 2018 Report Posted September 28, 2018 Interesting ruling ... https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/stairway-zeppelin-copyright-appeal-1.4842967 The two riffs sound very similar to my ear, but I'm not a musical notes guy. Maybe our well known musician (SwampD) would like to comment. Quote
LTS Posted September 28, 2018 Report Posted September 28, 2018 They are similar, but they are clearly (at least to me) not the same. Curious what Swamp says.. here's what i hear. In Spirit - there is a track that plays a basic progression down from what sounds like A to F over 5 measures with what sounds like a few extra notes faintly thrown in that are on higher strings. In Led Zeppelin - the riff starts on A but the note progression is not quite the same. The chords progression sounds similar up until the 6th measure in Spirit. I'm just testing myself to see how close I come to being accurate. ? Quote
SwampD Posted September 29, 2018 Report Posted September 29, 2018 Sorry, I was at rehearsal where we were trying to steal other people's stuff. Whenever these things come up, I usually say "whatever, everything is stolen." Then I heard it and my ears perked up. It's not that original a chord progression, but the way the do it,… I don't know, man. It's really similar. Not sure what it would mean monetarily, though. And I guess even if they lose the lawsuit, all the royalties they are going to get from everyone listening to it now should set them up nicely for their retirement. 1 Quote

SwampD Posted October 6, 2018 Report Posted October 6, 2018 The first song is what I used to listen to on the team bus heading to my high school football games to amp me up. So badass. The whole show still inspires me today. Quote

That Aud Smell Posted October 18, 2018 Report Posted October 18, 2018 (edited) One of my older kids put me onto this tune, albeit inadvertently. No idea who this dude is -- but this track is tight as hell.
