Doohicksie Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 I'm starting to like bosanova. It's just beautiful to me. Quote

Or is it the happiest of all sad music?… I never get that right. It does groove its ass off, either way. Edited January 24 by SwampD 1 Quote
Doohicksie Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 What got me into it was a YouTube video from a guy named Adam Neely who discusses music. He did one about "The Girl from Ipanema" and as these things happen, he hired a singer to sing the song in different keys, etc., and it was the girl in the video I posted above. I think she's got a perfect bosanova voice. And all that "happiest of all sad" stuff... even if you don't understand the words you can catch a case of nostalgia just from the sound of the music. It's very emotive I think. 1 Quote

When Bosa Nova and American Jazz first came together, this is the record. One of the classic recordings of its time, this was an early introduction to Brazilian music and their top artists to North America. This is my collectible first pressing on Verve Records. I was lucky to find this in such pristine condition. The sound quality is as amazing as the performance. If you have a streaming service they will probably have it in their library. Doohicksie Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Yes, it doesn't take much poking around in the genre to find out about that album. 1 Quote

Stan Getz was a fabulous sax player and a true pioneer in American jazz music. His ability to blend musically with the best in Bosa Nova was magical, as if he was doing it forever. An added plus. The recording engineers were also spectacular so the sound quality is excellent, it was recorded in 1963. Edited January 27 by Pimlach 1 Quote

Doohicksie Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 Not sure if anyone remembers the band Primitive Radio Gods. They had a song that got airplay titled, "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand" with was kind of a dreamy stream of consciousness composition that went on for over 5 minutes. Something reminded me of that song and I looked it up, then looked up the album it came from. It's actually a pretty good album. Most of the songs are not so disorganized as Standing Outside; they're more normal alt rock fare. Some guide guitar work though, I kind of like it. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Bob would have turned 80 today. Hard to believe he flew away home in 1981. I was 16 years old when he passed. I am 60 now. He turned 20 a few months after I was born. This is crazy when you think about it. 1 Quote
steveoath Posted February 20 Report Posted February 20 Saw jazz Sabbath last weekend. Very good. 3 very talented musicians and Adam Wakeman has managed to craft the rarest of breeds….. a band with jokes, that are actually a good band. next up: Biohazard and Life of Agony, then onto playing two shows with a couple of my bands 🤘 1 Quote
