Doohicksie Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 Today I learned Jack White was in the Raconteurs. Seems obvious now but I never realized it. Quote
steveoath Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 Been listening to Jazz Sabbath recently. Their bio is something to behold. http://jazzsabbath.net/thestory.php 1 Quote
freester Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 I just saw Airborne Toxic Event in concert for the 3rd time. They are the greatest band you’ve never heard of. They are on tour now. Highly recommended. 1 Quote

Doohicksie Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 There is a genre of music, in my mind anyway, that consists of songs I totally never heard when they came out, but became familiar with them from dive bars. They generally sound garage-band-ish in style, but "tighter" than that musically. They include bands such as The Raconteurs (Steady as She Goes, Level) Franz Fedinand (Take Me Out) Portugal the Man (I Feel It Still) Jet (Are You Gonna Be My Girl) Violent Femmes (Blister in the Sun) There are others but that's a representative sample to try to capture the sound. I will say that Jack White is a guitar riff master. Quote

It really was, but I always felt it was a little too polished for the band they were. The piano ballad and their attempt at a "Every Rose Has A Thorn" type song was a bit hard to stomach, but I get what they (or their producer) were trying to do. I never got to see them but I appreciated that MC5 vibe they brought. Another garage shredder from that era I just got into last year is Ty Segall. He has some great songs and did the best cover of Lowrider I've ever heard. Edited April 22, 2022 by SHAAAUGHT!!! Quote

The lyrics are really thought provoking. Quote

Sabres Fan in NS Posted May 23, 2022 Report Posted May 23, 2022 First Punk Rock single. Released in 1976. The best Damned lineup, IMO. Brian James (guitar) with Captain Sensible on bass, Rat Scabbies on drums and Dracula Dave singing. 1 Quote

SwampD Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 A friend of mine was working on this dance tune. He asked me to write a bass part for it. Not exactly my wheelhouse but it was fun,… and he asked me to do another.🤟🏻👍🏻😀 2 Quote
