PotentPowerPlay22 Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Nice deals at the trading deadline. The sound you hear is the 2nd round pick and the 4th round pick swirling down the toilet! This is how not to build a hockey franchise! The Sabres could have used those picks for a pair of 5'6" 140 lb forwards. Oh well, Darcy and Larry Quinn know best.

You can't look at it as Sabres trading a 2nd round pick for Dominic Moore. They traded Ales Kotalik for Moore. A deal i'd do over and over again and I don't care how well Kotalik has played in Edmonton.

The fourth round pick for Tellqvest is what it is the needed a back up for the interm while RM was out. As far as the trading Kotalik and picking up Moore. A move needed to be made. It may have not been the right one but it seemed to placate the masses for the time being.

Dainus Zubrus was a bust (for a 1st rounder). Moore (2nd rounder) and Tellqvist (4th rounder) were just wasted picks. I don't feel placated. The rental player concept is a load of crap. These were bad moves when they happened and history has shown that they are still bad moves. Why didn't they dump Kotalik for a decent goalie who was under contract?

Of course, once again, they end up not getting anything in return for one more of their players.
X. Benedict Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Dainus Zubrus was a bust (for a 1st rounder). Nah.....Biron to Philly for the first pick in the second. He wasn't getting resigned. Picking up Zubrus from the Caps meant just dropping just 3 spots in a crap draft. I think they would have taken Brennan anyway.

He was a pretty decent top-7 or top-8 forward/center (on a loaded offensive team) who was big, played physical and could take draws and play special teams. He got hurt against the Rangers in the 2nd round and Lindy has said several times that they really missed him vs. the Senators. They swapped one player who wasn't going to be on the team next year for another. Of course, once again, they end up not getting anything in return for one more of their players. Good post.

Let's not forget the costly loss of Jiri Novotny.
