spndnchz Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Read recently that Pominville was seeing doctors for an undisclosed injury. He did seem to have a weak shot this year or at least since mid-Oct. For a guy that's had a double digit shooting percentage most his NHL career, I think somethings up with him. If he had the same shoot percentage as the past couple years he would have been topping 40 goals this season. So what say you? -Hands -Wrist -Shoulder?
Buffalo Wings Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Read recently that Pominville was seeing doctors for an undisclosed injury. Not sure what it could be, if this is really the case, but if they've known about it since mid-October, why the hell didn't it get taken care of then? Even if it resulted in a long-term absence, get it fixed right away. It was pretty clear from the start of the season that we could have used a healthy Pominville. It's not like Briere's sports hernia in 05-06, where they were able to be without him for a few months.
thesportsbuff Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 like Wings said, if it was a season-long injury it would have been taken care of early on. if pominville is seeing doctors its probably for an injury suffered in the last few weeks if anything, which is actually when his game was just picking up...
That Aud Smell Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 PA got me started thinking about the possibility that there would be a post-season reveal re: Pominville's health. I'd then theorized that it would be some sort of soft tissue "core" injury. X had elsewhere guessed at a wrist/lower arm problem. In my mind, there must be something not right with the guy -- he was still getting open this year, still getting pucks on net -- I don't buy that he was simply snake-bitten -- I think his shot lacked the oomph and accuracy it once had.

DR HOLLIDAY Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Maybe he only has one ball...............

What I was pointing out was the lack of oomph in his stride. The wrist bone's connected to the thigh bone...
Guest Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 He's got a limp wrist. Just another typical Sabre with a case of Pussyitis.
nfreeman Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 I think he just lost his confidence. He used to always find the soft spot in the offensive zone, position himself for a pass, and then convert decisively and with accuracy. It was all mental. It did seem like he started to get his mojo back on TC's line in the last couple of weeks of the year though. I'm probably grasping at straws, but that late streak made me a bit more optimistic about him next year than I am about, say, Hecht or Roy.

Agreed. He finally stepped it up. While I wouldn't rule out some odd injury situation, he DID keep playing all season so it must not be too terribly serious. I'm inclined to believe Miller when he said during the locker-clean-out interview, paraphrased "some of the guys resisted growing into their new roles." I think JJ Pommers suffered growing pains this past season which was augmented by whomever the snake-tongue(s) is (or are) in the locker room. I think he finally snapped out of it the last month of the season. I really think there's negative-effecting chemistry within this current roster and some guys may have to go irregardless of their "talent." I'm looking at Roy and Stafford, specifically, strictly based on player interviews and observing their behavior during games. Obviously, Ruff has a better idea of who the snake-tongues are (I hope, at least).
billsrcursed Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Let's not forget he changed the curve in his stick. He didn't do that because he was "hurt". Simply put, he got "butt hurt" from reading all the nice things people had to say about him after a crappy year, both in stats and, in my opinion, effort. I'd be asking doctors to look at me too if my game declined so much in a year....

Sorry, but Buffalo teams have a rep for finishing strong, and until I see the same effort in October that this team usually puts up when eliminated, I just can't get my hopes up. I used to feel the same about Biron everytime he would finish a season strong, then revert back to his usual inconsistent self when next season started. Hope you're right though, I just doubt it.
