Pullup Champ Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 If Lindy does go, I don't think DR will bring in an experienced coach like Laviolette or someone of that caliber or price. Cunney is being groomed to be a coach in the NHL, he has the Sabres number this season, let's get him back in charge of the team he helped build!
North Buffalo Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 There is a good idea and bump Ruff up to GM, Shoeny is out there with the Rangers too.
kingcongkorab Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I hoping the coach for Dallas Stars gets the axe. I think Dave Tippet would look good behind the bench for the Sabres.
shrader Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 There is a good idea and bump Ruff up to GM, Shoeny is out there with the Rangers too. Why do people push that idea? What has Ruff done that would suggest he would make a good GM? He has no experience in that area. Hell, he's failing as a coach right now, so why not promote him.
X. Benedict Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I hoping the coach for Dallas Stars gets the axe. I think Dave Tippet would look good behind the bench for the Sabres. That team was snakebit this year. Morrow, Lehtinin, Parish, Richards all injured. Coaching wasn't the problem.

Why are we Buffalonians always willing to settle. We have to demand more from ownership. We settle just to have the goal of making the playoffs - no lets put out a team that wants the cup! Each team has the same salary cap. We need a new GM and a new look as coach with NHL experience (I would have liked a coach like Torts). I like Lindy but too long behind the same bench- just needs a change. We the fans need to be excited again. Stop settling!

If you look at the success he had as the Amerks coach, he would be working with a core of the same players. McCutch is also familiar with the system... Secondly, show me an NHL Caliber coach that is available, good, proven winner, respected... oh.. isn't that Cunney?

When you have to put the word "cents" in the equation- again you aren't necessarily striving to be the best. Thats what Buffalo deserves for the $$ they pay for all the jerseys, etc. we pay for with a team that under achieves. As for coach- lets see who is available when the season is officially over (Like Tippett) and then we can debate that- if the Sabres front office is WILLING to make a change.

I realise Cunneyworth's involvement in who went through the Rochester system is limited, if any, but it has to be said - If he had a hand in building the current team, then I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. Meaning I'm pretty sure Darcy picks whoever prospects gets to play on the farm, etc.? So Cunney might not be completely to blame here, but my points stands - Anyone who's been involved with assembling and developing the current team shouldn't be allowed anywhere NEAR the Sabres, EVER.
Cereal Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 There is a good idea and bump Ruff up to GM, Shoeny is out there with the Rangers too. Lindy wants to coach a team to a Stanley Cup Championship. No way he's going to give up on that just yet.
wonderbread Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Ruff would be picked up with in 1 month of leaving Buffalo if he were to be let go. Probably would turn around his new franchise and win a cup before Buffalo does. Just saying <_<

Please. This is bull. Two years ago Cunneyworth was lauded for developing the players you now disparage. Cunneyworth had Roy, Gaustad, Miller, Vanek, and Pominville ready to be huge contributors as rookies on the best team the Sabres have had in a decade. They're all very good players still, despite the shortcomings of the team in general. Blame the current coaching staff if you think they haven't developed since then.

Just saying <_< We all know that's exactly what would happen. And we'd all be happy that he finally won a cup, and we'd talk for years to come about what would have happened if they'd just kept Lindy around.

They're all very good players still, despite the shortcomings of the team in general. Blame the current coaching staff if you think they haven't developed since then. All that happened when the "New NHL" was still in effect, making it very hard to compare that Sabres team with others. Yes they were good, yes the rookies were helping out, but it all happened in the no-touch era, which obviously, they SHOULD flourish in. Also, I don't think I could ever be accused of giving the current coaching staff a free pass in this mess, but isn't it a little odd how these guys seemed to stagnate in development pretty much in-sync with how the league did away with the interference call, and went pre-lockout again? Ever since defensemen were allowed to interfere with forwards entering the zone, or pin guys against the opposite boards on shoot-ins, our forecheck and down-low pressure has been non-existant, and without those two you take away two thirds of the bread and butter for both the 05-06 and 06-07 teams, and leaves them pretty much only with their transition game 5 on 5. So, could it be these guys are overrated when playing in the current NHL, because they're being measured by achievements in the no-touch NHL? Could it be they're just your everyday smallish finesse players? I don't know really, I'm just throwing the question out there, cause personally the only guy who's impressed me after the "New NHL" went away, is Vanek for the first three months of this season. And last but definitely no least - I don't think we want anyone here the players may have the odd chance of being too comfortable with, and Cunneyworth falls into that category. These guys are sitting way too pretty as it is.
Knightrider Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I'd rather see the team blow up than let Ruff go, but, if Ruff wasn't the coach, I would rather see Tom Renney...

Stoner Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 probably about a week. And I wonder if Predators fans feel the same way about Barry Trotz.

DFITZ1 Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 If Lindy does go, I don't think DR will bring in an experienced coach like Laviolette or someone of that caliber or price. Cunney is being groomed to be a coach in the NHL, he has the Sabres number this season, let's get him back in charge of the team he helped build! If Linde is let go, it only proves that Sabres management won't hold the right persons accountable. Linde's a fine coach, butu all coaches need great players to get great results, and Sabres management LOSES great players, and overcommits on poor ones (Connelly - sorry, he will not turn this franchise around). Scotty Bowman is a great coach, but his Buffalo years, except the first, were his worst because he did not have great players (actually, he was the one who lost them). Expecting Linde to make this team a deep playoff contender is like expecting AIG executives to become priests, it won't happen.
North Buffalo Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Please don't give me a heart attack. Just thinking who could light a fire under these underachiever. Short of Torterella, Shoeny comes to mind... He bring back Nolan :w00t:
